Under the name Project Grunt, a 3D artist has given the Gate of Orgrimmar an impressive playable remake in Unreal Engine 5.

Hey, we know. We know how long you’ve been waiting for a new “this is what game XY would look like in Unreal Engine” story. The last one was Star Wars: Battle for Naboo a fortnight ago. But don’t despair, we’ve brought you some more.

3D artist Axcel has taken on the MMO giant World of Warcraft – more precisely, the Gates of Orgrimmar, which he has given a beautiful remake in Unreal Engine 5. A new video now shows the current playable state of the level. And together with the original Cataclysm Orgrimmar soundtrack, it triggers a few goosebumps.

Orgrimmar as impressive as never before

The level’s three-minute playtest presents the gates of the Orc capital as you’ve never seen them before. There’s little sign of the cartoony Blizzard style – instead, the level’s normally crude shapes have been given plenty of loving detail, and a modern Orc model roams the landscape:

And to dare to compare how much reinterpretation to the original is in here – this is what the gates of Orgrimmar look like in WoW as we know it:

The Youtuber (Axcel) is also working on graphic remakes of Warcraft and MU Online. The numerous fan projects show how great the desire for new graphics is in the MMO giant WoW. In addition to Orgrimmar, the Scarlet Monastery and Stormwind have already been recreated in the Unreal Engine.

However, many fans also want much more than just fresher graphics.

What do you think of the graphics showcase? Do you prefer the classic WoW look or would you like to see a graphics revolution? Tell us in the comments!
