This has never happened before: a VALORANT team had to abandon a professional Esports match because a player was too busy playing a popular anime gacha game.

For the first time in VALORANT history, a team had to forfeit a match because a player was too busy playing Honkai Star Rail. The popular gacha game has captivated many and now caused an unfortunate defeat in the VCL.

Defeat due to Gacha game – How did it happen?

The whole incident happened at the VALORANT Challengers League Taiwan/Hong Kong. A match between S2 Esports and Ghost CommandoS was scheduled to take place on May 2.

However, the match was abandoned by Ghost CommandoS because of a small problem within the team.

One of the team’s players didn’t manage to install the VCT client in time for the match.

The reason: he was too busy playing Honkai: Star Rail.

While some users under this tweet are wondering why you have to re-download the client in the middle of the season, user “KippoCat” has the answer to that question:

Under the original tweet, the player in question revealed himself not much later.

“You can’t blame him “

Besides a few comments that are visibly upset about the incident, the majority of the community finds the whole thing rather amusing and celebrates the player for the action.

What is Honkai: Star Rail?

Honkai: Star Rail is a gacha role-playing game from miHoYo (Genshin Impact developers) and was released on April 26. The game was already extremely hype before release and quickly overtook its predecessor in terms of numbers.

While the gacha or gambling mechanics are very similar to Genshin Impact, the world in Honkai: Star Rail is somewhat different. Instead of a large open world, in the new title you travel to different planets in space.

Furthermore, the battles are turn-based. This could also be a bit of a change for some Genshin players.

VALORANT player Keynes, however, seems to be quite captivated by the new Genshin offshoot. Next time, he might just want to make sure he has the right game client installed first.
