The first season in 2022 for Rainbow Six: Siege has started. We reveal what’s new with Demon Veil

Officially, the year 2022 is already in its third month, but for Rainbow Six: Siege it’s only just starting. With Demon Veil, the first Season of the seventh year in the PvP shooter has started and it has a lot to offer in terms of content.

We present the innovations of Season 1 of Year 7, which include a new operator, a new map, a new game mode and other changes.

By the way, Demon Veil is only the beginning: The developers have already presented their big plan for the year 2022. You can read more about it here in our separate article.

Rainbow Six Siege reveals surprise operator and roadmap for 2022

Rainbow Six Siege: The highlights of Demon Veil

When is the release of Season Demon Veil?

The first Season of 2022 called Demon Veil for Rainbow Six: Siege launched on 15 March and is expected to run for three months.

How big is the download?

There are different sizes for the download depending on which platform you purchased Rainbow Six: Siege on.

  • Ubisoft Connect: 4.4 GB
  • Steam: 3.8 GB
  • PS4: 4.66 GB
  • PS5: 5.17 GB
  • Xbox One: 13.82 GB
  • Xbox Series X/S: 13.17 GB

New operator: Azami

Demon Veil brings Azami into play on the Operator side. The young defender has a modified kunai as a special ability, but it does not serve as a weapon. Instead, she can use it to close holes in the walls from a safe distance. Defender Castle thus has surprising competition.

When it comes to weapons, Azami relies on either the SMG 9x19VSN or the ACS12 shotgun and, as a pistol, the D-50. As an additional gadget, there is room for a contact grenade or some barbed wire.

Important: You cannot unlock Azami immediately for the game currency. At the beginning, the defender is exclusively available to buyers of the new Battle Pass for 14 days. Only after that will Azami be available to everyone else.

New Map: Emerald Plains

It’s been over three years since Rainbow Six: Siege got its last new map so far. But that will soon come to an end. In the course of the current season, there will be a new map, Emerald Plains, which is designed for competitive matches.

The new map is located in Ireland, more precisely in one of the country clubs there. Similar to the map Café Dostojewski, Emerald Plains will also offer quite high ceilings and lots of opportunities to blow up walls.

There is no detailed presentation of the map yet, because it will be added to the game only towards the middle of the season.

New game mode: Team Deathmatch

Those who like to shoot in Rainbow Six: Victory can be especially happy: With Demon Veil there is now Team Deathmatch as a separate game mode. In matches lasting a maximum of five minutes, two teams of 5 players each fight to achieve 75 eliminations as quickly as possible.

To do this, players can use all operators, whether defenders or attackers, but not their special abilities. Only the shield operators such as Blitz, Montagne or Clash are not available. Drones, barricades and other gadgets also have to be dispensed with.

New feature: attacker re-election

What is already planned as a feature for year 6 now comes with Demon Veil: the attacker re-election. During the preparation phase of a match, attackers can now still change their operator and equipment afterwards in order to better adapt to the strategy of the defenders.

The developers hope that this will make drones even more important in the preparation phase. Especially the uncovering of defenders and their gadgets can become a crucial point for the course of a match from now on.

More changes: Goyo Rework and Weapon Sights

Small rework for Goyo: In the past, the defender struggled with a low pick rate, which was partly due to his less flexible gadget that could only be attached to shields. The developers have started exactly there: From now on, the so-called Volcán canisters, which activate a fire bomb when triggered, also stick to walls and floors.

Universal Weapon Sights: Primary weapons and some secondary weapons also gain access to all non-magnifying sights with Demon Veil. This includes flare, reflex and holovisors, which are now applicable to almost all weapons.
