The new support hero, Doctor Doctrine, brings vampire abilities to Overwatch. Also included are the Mystery Mania mode, a new map, and solo-leveling skins.

The next chapter in Overwatch is about to begin. Talon’s Reign enters its fifth round today with the new season, bringing a new, dark hero, Halloween events, and a Shadow Monarch collaboration. But let’s start with the new support hero.

Overwatch: Vampires, Undead, and Solo Leveling

The sinister Doctor Doctrine steps out of the shadows. Yes, he doesn’t just look a little like a vampire—he was also inspired by those iconic bloodsuckers, both in appearance and abilities. Much like Mercy, Doctrine can manipulate life energy on both his own side and the enemy’s. What does that mean?

Well, with his scepter, he can heal teammates and drain life energy from enemies. With his abilities, he can sprint forward or attach a healing drone to an ally, granting them healing and attack speed. And through his healing abilities, Doctrine passively gains some health regeneration.

His abilities can also be enhanced. And what about the Zimbabwean hero’s ultimate? When you press that button, Doctrine unleashes a swarm of drones that reduces enemies’ maximum health and grants allies over-healing. Sounds exciting—and, thankfully, somehow very different from Mercy. That’s reassuring.

In addition, the first new map in years is being introduced for the Escort mode: Watchpoint: Grímsvötn. Here, in this Icelandic volcanic fissure, you’ll encounter fire, ice, stolen technology, forgotten inmates, and much more.

Let’s move on to the spooky Halloween treats for players. There’s, for example, the Mystery Mania: Grave Games mode, where you start as a random hero and respawn with new, random powers after every death—not just as a new hero. This leads to wild and unexpected combinations. The mode is playable through November 2.

Finally, in the Overwatch crossover with Shadow Monarch, you can look forward to skins from the Solo Leveling universe. Genji appears as Sung Jinwoo, Reaper becomes Igris, Anran takes on Cha Hae’s design, Reinhard becomes Iron, and Lifeweaver is portrayed as Choi Jong-In. Wuyang gets the Mythic skin this time around with the “Dragon Warrior.”

Sombra is now officially a support hero and can weaken enemies while gaining new healing abilities. Roadhog’s kit is also being reworked.
