A recent ESRB listing suggests that the two gangster epics will soon receive native current-gen versions. Will the reveal happen at The Game Awards?
According to a new ESRB age rating, Mafia 2 and Mafia 3 will apparently soon receive enhanced versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Previously, Mafia: Definitive Edition—a comprehensive remake of the first game—was released in September 2020.
There are essentially already Definitive Editions of the two sequels, so we may be looking at a minor current-gen upgrade rather than full-fledged remakes.
From the Omertà Collection to Old Country: The Series’ Latest Successes
Mafia: The Omertà Collection was recently released. The bundle includes all Definitive Editions along with Mafia: The Old Country Definitive Edition. The collection launched alongside a PS5 and Xbox Series update for Mafia: Definitive Edition.
The Old Country is the latest installment in the series. It was released in August 2025 and exceeded publisher Take-Two’s expectations. In August 2026, the Man of Honor DLC made its debut with two additional story chapters.
A Question of Timing: Release Before GTA 6 or an Appearance at the Game Awards?
Apart from the usual themes expected from the Mafia series, the ESRB listing doesn’t reveal much. In any case, it’s a pretty reliable indicator that something is about to happen. The big question is whether this will happen before the release of GTA 6 in November or after.
An official announcement shouldn’t be too far off. It remains to be seen whether Take-Two will simply release the updates in between or if the company is saving the reveal for The Game Awards in December.
