In the Japanese League of Legends LJL, player Miyu “Shakespeare” Otomo has made history by becoming the first female to compete within the competition.

In the League of Legends scene dominated by the four major leagues, it is quite easy to forget that other competitions and competition structures exist alongside LCK, LPL, LEC and LCS. In Japan, for example, various teams compete against each other in the course of the LJL, League of Legends Japanese League, in order to be able to travel to the Worlds, the game’s world championship, at the end of the year. Miyu “Shakespeare” Otomo is the first female player to play in the current competition.

Making history times two?

In fact, Otomo’s effort may go down in League and League of Legends history for more than just once. Her team, FENNEL, owns the chance to compete in the World Cup, which means the support player could soon be the first-ever female pro at a League of Legends World Cup.

FENNEL got off to a winning start in the freshly-launched Summer Split as the team dispatched Crest Gaming Act rivals 2-0. The 20-year-old pro replaced the starting support here Corporal and stepped into the roles of Yuumi as well as Lulu.  Shakespeare himself has been part of the League of Legends team since 2022 and made the jump to the professional squad via the Academy team of Rascal Jester, an eSports team previously acquired by FENNEL.
