According to Windows Central, the Xbox handheld could be released this year in cooperation with a major PC gaming manufacturer.

That Microsoft is working on an Xbox handheld was already officially confirmed last year At the time, Microsoft stated that it would be several more years before the first Xbox handheld came onto the market. But now there is different information.

That’s what happened:According to the usually well-informed English magazineWindows Central the first Xbox handheld could come onto the market as early as this year.

But be careful: Editor-in-chief Jez Corden does not name any sources for his statements. So the information should be treated with caution.

In detail:

  • The first Xbox handheld is to be released in cooperation with a major hardware manufacturer.
  • The handheld console should unmistakably look like an Xbox.
  • In all likelihood, Windows will be used as the operating system.

According to Corden, manufacturers such as Asus, Lenovo, MSI or even Razer are being considered. Here, as with Valve’s partnership with Lenovo, Microsoft would specify the operating system.

The handheld, which is to be listed under the code name Keenan at Microsoft, will therefore most likely use Windows. Microsoft will emphasize the Microsoft Store and the PC Game Pass service.

Windows 11 features like the Xbox Game Bar will also be used In addition, Microsoft is said to be working on improving the use of controllers under Windows 11.

However, users should also be able to install platforms like Steam.

Corden suspects that the first handheld for Microsoft could also be a kind of “test run” for Microsoft to test new features of the Windows 11 operating system.

For most GlobalESportNews readers, an Xbox handheld is interesting. In a survey, more than 40 percent said they wanted to buy the gaming handheld. Another 36 percent said they were interested but wanted to wait for details first.

Now we want to hear your opinion. What do you expect from the Xbox handheld? Which hardware partner would you like to see for the gaming handheld? Feel free to write us a comment.
