That footballers like Ronaldo or Messi get a statue is nothing new. But now the main character Aloy from Horizon Forbidden West has also got a likeness. But why?

Why not just get a statue? That’s probably what the makers of Horizon Forbidden West thought. The game is currently in the middle of its promo phase, having been released on 18 February.

And to mark the occasion, Italy’s PlayStation division thought: we’ll donate our heroine her own effigy in the middle of Florence. The website for the statue also says that Aloy should serve as a role model, as she makes gender differences seem unimportant and instead focuses on diversity.

Various Reddit posts have also documented other statues from the game. A statue in Sydney of the Clawstrider, one of the monsters in the game, has also had a female Aloy cosplayer photographed.

According to Sony statements, (figures will appear in 15 more cities).

Ostensibly there is one in London’s Waterloo station – although there have been no further photos from on site there and the posts on Reddit seem like a marketing strategy – the same goes for the statue in Florence so far. So far we have only found several shots from Sydney on social media.

We can definitely get used to gaming statues in many a cityscape – although these from the Horizon world are probably only temporary.
