Nvidia is investing in Intel. For a long time, the power structure was exactly the opposite.

Nvidia recently invested a large sum in its long-time competitor and dominant player Intel. The relationship between the two companies has changed significantly, as Jensen Huang confirmed in a talk show.

Nvidia invests in Intel

It’s one of the biggest gaming deals and one of the most important tech news stories of recent months: Nvidia and Intel have announced a long-term collaboration. Nvidia is investing five billion US dollars in the former CPU market leader.

The cooperation largely revolves around data centers and AI, but the gaming sector is also explicitly mentioned. It is conceivable, for example, that future Intel APUs could feature RTX power from Nvidia, which could ultimately benefit both companies.

The deal is likely to come at a good time for Intel in particular, as the chip giant has been making mostly negative headlines for years and is in the midst of a serious crisis. Nvidia’s investment demonstrates this once again.

Just a few years ago, this would have been simply unimaginable. For a long time, the balance of power was such that Intel would have been more likely to invest in Nvidia. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang looked back on this period on CNBC’s “Mad Money” with host Jim Cramer.

Cramer recounts that he spoke with Intel co-founder Andy Grove many years ago. Grove told him that Intel wanted to strike a deal with a company that sounded a lot like Nvidia.

Huang responds jokingly:

Intel has spent 33 years of our lives trying to kill us.

But now the tide has turned, and the ball is in Nvidia’s court, so to speak. Huang continues to joke that they are “lovers, not fighters.” So he sees a future in which Intel and Nvidia can be equally successful.

It remains to be seen how the deal between the two tech giants will actually affect the market and the gaming industry. In addition, the cooperation still has to be approved by the relevant authorities. However, there should be nothing standing in the way of this.
