This massive new update is so full of heresy, it’ll even knock the Emperor off his throne.
Since its release two years ago, Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 has maintained an astonishing pace of updates. To celebrate its second anniversary, there’s another major wave of new content—and this time, the Chaos Marines are finally getting their well-deserved moment in the spotlight!
The Chaos Marines are here!
At the heart of the second anniversary update is the new Chaos Siege mode. For the first time, this PvE mode lets us don the armor of the Space Marines’ renegade brothers (previously, Chaos Marines were only playable in PvP).
In plain language, this means: we can finally wield the chainsword—either solo or in co-op—to expertly shred not only Tyranids but also Imperial Guardsmen from Cadia and Space Marines, all while maniacally bellowing “Death to the False Emperor” into our headsets.
Playable traitor legions include the Night Lords, Iron Legion, World Eaters, and followers of Nurgle (Plague Marines). The new Chaos Siege mode will feature two sectors at launch, with a third to be added at a later date.
What else is new?
- Crucible System: A new challenge system that lets you activate handicaps and debuffs to unlock new rewards.
- New Weapons: The one-handed Thunder Hammer is added to the arsenal, along with several Heroic variants of existing weapons.
- Tactical Rework: The Tactical class is undergoing a major overhaul, with large portions of the talent tree being replaced to allow for greater build diversity.
- Space Wolves Champion Pack: Season Pass 3 owners will receive a cosmetic DLC featuring the armor of the legendary Wolf Guard of Fenris (for the Bulwark class).
Roadmap: Space Marine 2 continues

Space Marine 2 has already announced big plans for 2027. Among the major highlights are an all-new playable class (the Apothecary Marine), two new operations, a rework of the Heavy class, additional weapons, and a new Prestige System. You can find all the details and the schedule in the image above.
