A free rulebook, more readable unit profiles and generally less complex game rules. Warhammer 40K introduces far-reaching changes with the 10th Edition. For players, this is a boon, especially financially.

Back in March, the British game manufacturer Games Workshop announced the new, tenth edition of the popular tabletop classic Warhammer 40K. With the new edition, the manufacturer wants to make the brand much more accessible to beginners.

Rulebook now free of charge

This is to be done in several ways. First of all, Games Workshop is tackling the prices, which have been a significant barrier to entry in Warhammer so far. From the tenth edition onwards, the basic Warhammer rulebook will be available free of charge

So from now on you don’t need to spend 50 Euros just for a book full of rules. Instead, you can download them here (). In the coming weeks, free rules for the various factions of the Warhammer universe will also be added

The new rulebook will also be much more streamlined and less complicated, making it easier to understand even for Warhammer newcomers. The extensive codes for the various armies will still be available for purchase, but they are not absolutely necessary for playing the game.

By the way, there will soon be new fodder for Warhammer fans to play with:

You’re ready to go with just one box

Another innovation concerns the number of units needed to play. With the new Combat Patrol game mode, you now only need one box – then you can get started.

The Combat Patrol boxes are currently priced at around 100 euros. The Space Marines Combat Patrol Box contains, for example, a Primaris Lieutenant, ten Infiltrators, three Suppressors, three Eliminators and a Primaris Impulsor combat transporter.

According to the old game rules, these would be far too few units for a round of Warhammer. However, Games Workshop plans to adapt the rules of the tenth edition so that these troops will also be playable against each other.

But the 100 euros for the box are not quite enough. Warhammer fans will still have to take care of the colours and the assembly of the figures themselves. So Warhammer has not become an inexpensive hobby; but at least it is a lot more affordable.

The tenth edition of Warhammer will probably be released on Saturday, 24 June 2023. Pre-orders for the new Leviathan box will be available from 10 June.

What do you think about the new additions to Warhammer 40K? Do you want to start playing now that Warhammer is getting cheaper or have you been playing it for years anyway? Feel free to let us know in the comments.
