The Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator get an official multiplayer. The open beta is already running, you can find all information about the release here

In Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator, players could only go on tour together via an unofficial mod in multiplayer. The developers from SCS Software have now released a stand-alone multiplayer for the truck simulations. While the multiplayer for American Truck Simulator has been officially released, the open beta in ETS 2 is still running. How you can participate and what makes the multiplayer so special, you can read here.

Official Multiplayer for ETS 2 and ATS

In the community there was always the wish for a multiplayer for both titles. Thanks to an unofficial mod, playing together was also possible, but with some drawbacks. The servers were often overloaded and there is still no AI traffic. Players who didn’t follow the traffic rules and could only be reported via detours also spoiled the fun of the multiplayer mod.

This is what the official multiplayer
promises: Developer SCS Software announced a convoy function for eight players in multiplayer in a forum post in May. In it, you are able to drive the same cargo to its destination. This eliminates the need for a long search for the right cargo and the same destination. According to the developers, the multiplayer is still in an early phase.

– Each player can open a private session for up to 8 other players
– Possibility to synchronise orders and jobs
– Synchronised AI traffic
– Synchronised time and weather
– Vehicle liveries, truck and cab accessories are synchronised
– In-game communication via CB radio, quick replies or text chat
After a little more than a month in beta, the convoy mode is now part of American Truck Simulator. So you don’t need to activate a beta version.

How to participate in the ETS 2 Open Beta
At the moment the Open Beta for the multiplayer for Euro Truck Simulator 2 is running. After a successful test it is only a matter of time until Euro Truck Simulator 2 will also get the convoy function and the multiplayer associated with it as an official release.

How to activate the beta access for ETS 2 at Steam:

– Search for Euro Truck Simulator 2 in your Steam library and select it.
– Right click on “Properties
– In the new window select “Betas”.
– In the dropdown select “public_beta – Public Beta 1.41”

Limitations and known issues in the Beta

The open beta has some limitations. At this time, no mods are supported. Other known issues include:

– AI vehicles disappear when a player disconnects.
– Lifting bridges are not synchronised. They remain down, for example in the Italy DLC.
– Invitations via Steam only work via the Steam overlay.
– In case of own trailers, another trailer might spawn at the same place
– CB radio is interrupted by text chat entries
– The ingame map scrolls together with the chat when zooming out.
Another limitation is special transports, which are not possible in the beta. If you have such a job active in single player, you cannot join a multiplayer session. Whether it will be possible to carry out special transports in the future is currently unknown.

It is quite conceivable that in the future more than eight players will be able to go on tour together in a convoy and that mods will be supported. We’ll keep you up to date.

What do you think of the announcement? Are you looking forward to riding together in ETS 2 and ATS? Let us know in the comments.
