You’re almost there! and on Steam, there are free games to go with them. This means that you can try out certain games for a few days without paying a cent. In some cases, you can even keep the games, and we’ll briefly introduce them to you here.

Highlight: Humankind

(Genre: Turn-based strategy – Developer: Amplitude Studios – Free to play until:and; January 27

(Play for free on Steam)

If you can’t wait for the release of Civilization 7 and still feel like playing a global strategy game, you can dive into Humankind this weekend.

As the name suggests, you lead humanity from its Stone Age beginnings to the present day. You have to develop your people, expand cities, manage resources, invest in research and, of course, wage wars or find diplomatic solutions to conflicts.

You have up to 60 historical cultures to choose from, spanning several eras. Each culture has its own characteristics and subtleties and you choose which one you want to play with in each era. A big difference to Civ is the world map with its sophisticated terrain system, which is shown in different terrain types. These in turn influence the battles and the city construction.

KWith a rather low rating on Steamof currently 67 percent, this weekend offers a good opportunity to try out the Civ competitor for free before pulling out your wallet. If you’re convinced, you can still purchase Humankind for 7.50 euros until January 30.
