Vor allem in den Kämpfen wird sich der Wechsel der Hauptfigur bemerkbar machen. CD Projekt verrät jetzt weitere Details.

Development of The Witcher 4 is now in full swing. Accordingly, fans can look forward to official information about the upcoming role-playing game from time to time.

In the latest episode of the in-house podcast AnsweRED, CD Projekt Red has now commented on the change of the main character from the witcher Geralt to his foster daughter Ciri, who has also dedicated herself to the craft of witchcraft.

Especially in the fights, there is a big difference that fans can expect.

Not as blocky as

From 46:15 minutes into the podcast, the topic of the aforementioned change of character is discussed. The topic was triggered by the reveal trailer for The Witcher 4, in which we see Ciri perform some new moves in combat that were previously unheard of in the role-playing series.

Senior Communications Manager Pawel Burza says:

You don’t see Geralt doing these things. He’s nimble, but he’s kind of a brick. Compared to him, [Ciri] is much more fluid.

If you’d rather eavesdrop than read, we’ve fast-forwarded to the relevant part of the podcast for you:

Aside from the visual change for our eyes, the fights in particular will be different. The reasons for this lie not only in the different physiques of Geralt and Ciri, but also in their personalities, as Game Director Sebastian Kalemba explains further:

Ciri] moves as if she were raised by wolves in Kaer Morhen. This comes from her personality, her attitude and so on.

Pawel Burza also says, building on that:

You also have to think about it: her build is very different from what you expect from Geralt. He’s more bulky, she’s more agile, and she’s smaller, which she can use to her advantage because she’s more flexible.

As in The Witcher 3 – but so different

In The Witcher 3, we already got a taste of how much more agile Ciri hops across the battlefield than her grumpy foster father. The key to success in the 2015 role-playing masterpiece was to keep moving with Ciri instead of just hitting her.

But there will be an important difference in comparison to Witcher 3 in part 4. While the young Ciri was still able to use her innate teleportation abilities thanks to the Elder Blood in her veins, she will probably have to do without them in the upcoming adventure.

CD Projekt has not yet revealed the exact reason for this. However, the team has already told us that there will be a meaningful explanation for it.

If we could switch between time and space just once, we would immediately know where the journey would take us: into the future, to the day that The Witcher 4 is released. Right after that, we’ll delve into the PC version of GTA 6 before we give ourselves over to the new shooter reference Half-Life 3.

And why all this? Well, to somehow bridge the gap until The Elder Scrolls 6 comes out. We’re still allowed to dream, aren’t we…
