The Witcher 3: The new expansion, Songs of the Past, will be unveiled in Germany, and the exact date has now been set

Fans are eagerly awaiting news about the new Witcher expansion. It’s now official: At gamescom 2026, we’ll finally get to see more of Songs of the Past. The expansion will be officially unveiled during Opening Night.

It’s been clear for several weeks now that the Polish developers will be at the trade show with the Witcher DLC. Now we also know in what form: “Songs of the Past” is set to be officially unveiled as part of Opening Night Live, gamescom’s traditional opening show on Tuesday evening.

ONL host Geoff Keighley personally announced this on Twitter. The show starts onAugust 25, 2026at8:00 p.m.German time.

According to Keighley, during the show we’ll be able to get a first lookat the expansion. It’s unclear, however, exactly what will be presented during the show—that is, whether we’ll just see a story trailer or even actual gameplay. Of course, you can also just come to gamescom yourself. As CD Projekt has now confirmed, the developers plan to present anguided presentationof the expansion to interested fans during the event in Hall 8.1. The wording suggests that gameplay footage will also be shown during the presentation. Anyone who wants to see the presentation simply needs a trade show ticket—and probably a lot of patience while waiting in line.

Songs of the Past is being developed primarily by the team at Fool’s Theory; the creators of The Thaumaturge are also currently working on a remake of the first Witcher game. CD Projekt itself is currently working full steam ahead on The Witcher 4, which is set to use Unreal Engine 5 for the first time in the series’ history.
