With the Next Gen update, it”s not just graphical updates and bug fixes that move into the world of the Witcher. We show you seven exciting new features, Easter Eggs and secrets.

No CDPR game update is complete without hidden changes and secrets! The Witcher 3 Next Gen is of course no exception. A few days after the release of the free update, the internet is already bubbling and numerous Witcher fans are proudly presenting their finds.

We have taken a look around on YouTube, Twitter, Reddit and the like and have picked out seven exciting new features. If your Witcher senses have uncovered even more secrets, feel free to put them in the comments!

1. more interactions with roach

roach. You can”t with her, but you can”t without her either. Geralt”s mare with unruly control has long become a Witcher meme. And with the new Next Gen update, we can now interact with the horse even more:

  • Finally there”s more love for Roach, because now we can pet her! Just run with Geralt to the side of the horse and hold down the jump button!

Were Sudden Kicks previously just a “cosmetic” animation, now after the update they do quite a lot of damage and even knock out the sorcerer himself.

2.
The key to Yennefer”s room

For seven years, the key to Yennefer”s room was a running joke among Witcher fans. Because the item was classified as “Common” – suggesting that basically anyone could gain access to the lady”s chambers.

With the Next Gen update, the developers put an end to the laughter of TeamTriss: Yennefer”s key is now a “relic”, because of course the sorceress doesn”t let just anyone in!

    3. Henry Cavill”s dog

To the great disappointment of many, Henry Cavill himself does not make it into The Witcher 3. At least his Netflix armour is now available as a reward for the new quest “In the Shadow of Eternal Fire”. If you manage to reach the good end in this quest, you can encounter a stray dog in the area a few days later. This dog is called Kal and is a tribute to the four-legged friend of the (former) Witcher actor. Cute!

    4. new fast travel point

One of the best secret changes in the Next Gen update is definitely the new quick travel point at Krähenfels – and it”s inside the castle! Gone are the days when we had to laboriously walk the long way from the signpost through the village to the inner courtyard. At least almost: The second travel point is only unlocked after the quest for the Bloody Baron. But after that it makes your life a lot easier!

    5. Hattori”s sword

In The Witcher 3, as a reward for completing the quest “Of Swords and Dumplings”, we get the Shard Sword from Master Swordsmith Hattori. For many, however, the steel sword was useless at the time because Geralt had picked up umpteen other swords with better stats in the meantime.

With the Next Gen upgrade, however, Hattori”s sword has been reworked. For one, the sword now offers three slots for upgrades instead of just one. In addition to the 50 percent bonus on critical damage, the damage value now also scales with the character level. This means that significantly more players can do something with the weapon when they complete Hattori”s quest.

    6. the bridge to the lighthouse

Remember that pesky bridge by the lighthouse on Eldberg Island? You know, the broken bridge that made Geralt”s life miserable because it was nearly impossible to cross it on the first try? Instead of jumping from one side to the other, the wizard threw himself into the abyss and, with a bit of luck, landed in the wild waters.

That has now come to an end: the bridge has been magically repaired with the Next Gen update. Now Geralt can walk comfortably over the planks to the lighthouse without getting wet umpteen times beforehand. Yay!

    7. connection to Cyberpunk 2077?

The fact that YouTuber xLetalis has not yet been immortalised as an NPC in any CD Projekt game is a minor miracle. Because no one else searches the huge open worlds of The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 as meticulously for secrets as he does. Now, after the Next Gen update, he claims to have found a link between the two games:

Of course, there are many more secret changes to discover and Witcher fans will be busy tracking them down for quite some time. For example, there is now also an extra slot for masks, Geralt has infinite stamina when exploring and the life regeneration of food has been given a debuff.
