A “beautiful” image on Reddit is currently making hearts beat faster. It shows a very special gaming fan.
“When I get older, I want to be that cool” – that’s what many younger people thought, and not just when Gandalf the Grey read the riot act to the Balrog on the bridge of Khazad-dûm.
No, a user on Reddit also wrote the above sentence. The reason is another older gentleman, without a long beard, but with significantly more skill on the controller than the wizard.
At the proud age of 90, the gentleman plays Assassin’s Creed Shadows. This unbroken passion for video games into his old age has now earned him love and admiration on the internet.
A gamer from the very beginning
Specifically, it’s about the father or grandfather (we’re guessing the latter) of Reddit user CautiousPaul:
90 years old, still gaming and loves Assassin’s Creed Shadows so much he bought the guide

The extremely sprightly 90-year-old gentleman sits on the couch with his DualSense controller. Next to him lies a special edition of Assassin’s Creed Shadows that has just arrived in the mail. It immediately becomes clear: This man is not playing video games for the first time in his life, quite the contrary.
According to CautiousPaul, his relative has been playing since at least the days of the ZX Spectrum – which was released in 1982. So he’s a real early adopter when it comes to video games. It’s all the more impressive that he has remained loyal to his hobby ever since.
By the way, according to his doctor, gaming even helps him combat his advancing arthritis. So next time your mom or partner complains about you being up at 3 a.m. playing Elden Ring, tell them you’re doing it for your health!
From LAN parties in nursing homes to role models
The video game grandpa is celebrated in the comments below the picture. The hope quoted at the beginning of this article, to still be so cool at that age, is just the tip of the iceberg.
Co-redditor Disintegr8tor, for example, dreams of one day hosting a LAN party in a nursing home. After all, in a few decades, there are likely to be significantly more seniors who are into video games than there are today.
retro-gaming-lion on the other hand, feels a longing to be able to play with his dad when he looks at the picture. But he’s too busy with his work – sad.
ProtoPrime1X recommends that the thread creator show the gaming guru the newly released Oblivion Remaster. FocusOnThePie writes simply Beautiful ❤️
For corpse2b, the 90-year-old is a role model for how to age with dignity.
Special editions? Yes, they still exist!
And then this: We stumbled across a comment from user SirJeffers88. He wrote: Today I learned that special editions of games are still being printed.
Other young guns even agreed with his amazement.
Since we at GameStar have an educational mission, we would like to point out, entirely altruistically, that special editions are of course still available Really great ones, with elaborate designs, lots of extras, and other goodies!
We’re sure there are a few passionate gamers among our readers who have been around for a few years. Oh, you know what? Let’s just ask around!
How old are you and how long have you been gaming? What was your first console/PC platform and do you remember why you started gaming in the first place? Do you notice that pursuing your passion for so long keeps you physically and mentally fit? We’re curious, so feel free to let us know in the comments – but only if you want to, of course!
