Donkey Kong Bananza not only has an incredibly cool-sounding name, it also has a lot to offer in terms of gameplay. Shortly before its release on July 17, 2025, Nintendo has lifted the curtain and revealed lots of gameplay features in a 17-minute Direct.

In Bananza, DK embarks on an adventurous journey with young Pauline through the various biomes of the legendary underworld to collect delicious bananas. Well, and to fulfill an important wish for Pauline, yes. But primarily it’s about bananas. Ba-na-nen!!!

Donkey Kong can transform into various animal creatures thanks to the legendary Bananergy, enabling him to search the vast areas for hidden secrets even better. As a zebra, the monkey sprints particularly fast (yes, it’s confusing), as an ostrich DK can fly through the air and bombard his opponents with eggs. There are supposed to be a total of five different transformations, which can only be activated for a limited time.

Donkey Kong Bananza should therefore be the ideal way to pass the time until the next big Mario adventure is released for the Switch 2. When the time will come?
