After almost four years, The Division 2 appears on Steam with a big discount. But criticism due to technical problems overshadows the release.

The Division 2 finally arrives on Steam. After almost four years, the loot shooter also arrives on Valve’s distribution platform, even more so with a 70 percent discount that gives the standard version a price tag of 9 euros.

However, Steam players are not cheering: Of around 300 reviewers so far, only 61 per cent rate The Division 2 positively, resulting in an even recommendation status. The reasons for the many negative ratings are mainly to be found in the technical area.

What is the criticism?

Gamers are criticising The Division 2’s technology in particular, with many users apparently struggling with crashes and faulty game launches. Some also criticise the connection to Ubisoft Connect, Ubisoft’s own launcher.

However, this practice is common with Steam releases from large publishers, who then additionally install a more compact version of their own client. In any case, the separate DRM does not meet with much approval from gamers.

Most of the negative reviewers, however, refer to crashes, which Ubisoft should now work on as quickly as possible. One or two users also take offence at the lack of compatibility with the Steam Deck.

What’s in the Steam release?

The Steam version has the same content as the other versions on Ubisoft Connect or the Epic Store. The standard edition for currently 9 euros only contains the basic game. The edition with the expansion Warlords of New York costs 18 euros in the basic version, and 24 euros in the Ultimate Edition.

If, despite the negative voices, you’re thinking about picking up The Division 2 during the Steam sale, you still have until 26 January 2023 to think about it carefully. Only then will the discount campaign end on Steam.
