Endnight Games provides the surprise of the evening: the successor to Sons of the Forest was unveiled at The Game Awards 2025. Instead of an island, this time you’ll be heading into space.

Did you think that after planes and helicopters, Endnight Games would run out of vehicles to crash? Think again.

At The Game Awards 2025, the studio delivered the big surprise of the evening: the sequel to Sons of the Forest – currently simply titled Forest 3 – is leaving Earth.

The first trailer no longer shows a classic desert island, but the dramatic crash of a spaceship on an eerie, alien planet. The series is thus taking the biggest leap in its history, swapping earthly forests for extraterrestrial terrain.

From the forest to the stars

A leap to light speed is followed by the inevitable crash. But as soon as the hatch of the wreck opens, it becomes clear that you are no longer fighting for survival in the undergrowth.

The environment shown is gloomy, organic, and definitely alien. Instead of fir trees and rocks, bizarre plants and a strange atmosphere dominate the scene. Endnight Games effectively translates the claustrophobic feeling of “being exposed” into a sci-fi setting. Anyone who feared that the sci-fi setting would take away the creepiness was proven wrong by the trailer. You saw it right: the threat is omnipresent and it is once again grotesque. In the trailer, you can see that heavily deformed humanoid creatures and a kind of hydra lurk on the alien world.

For veterans of the series, this is a bold move. Both The Forest and Sons of the Forest thrived on isolation on a mysterious island, fighting cannibals in the undergrowth, and complex base building with logs.

Exactly how these mechanics will be translated into a sci-fi setting is currently still a matter of speculation. However, it is considered certain that Endnight Games will retain the survival element.

Instead of hunger and thirst, the focus could now shift to oxygen management, radiation exposure, or similar issues—and instead of Kelvin, the cute little robot from the trailer is likely to be your first companion.

There is no potential release date yet, and there is no Steam store page either.
