Stellar Blade set a record with 183,830 players after its Steam release, leaving Sony’s competition far behind.

Stellar Blade has taken Steam by storm: The action-adventure game from developer Shift Up catapulted straight to the top of the most successful PlayStation single-player games on Steam after its PC release on June 12, 2025, with a record start. And it did so with such a lead that even the biggest names in Sony’s history look really old.

The new number one in the Sony universe

No sooner was Stellar Blade available on Steam than the player numbers exploded: With an all-time peak of 183,830 concurrent players, the game more than doubled the previous record held by Ghost of Tsushima(77,154) – and also left God of War (73,529) and Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered (66,436) far behind.

Only the multiplayer hit Helldivers 2 is ahead of it with 458,709 simultaneous players, but as a co-op live service title, it’s in a completely different league.

How users are celebrating Stellar Blade on Steam

Stellar Blade is not only the most successful single-player game Sony has ever released on Steam – the community is responding to this triumph with rave reviews.

Less than 24 hours after its release, it has already been awarded the rating Extremely Positive on the Steam page, with 95 percent of the approximately 7,000 reviews being positive:

  • Stellar Blade immediately impressed me when it was announced because of its fantastic graphics and gameplay (and definitely not because of the latex suits and wobbly physics). I wasn’t disappointed in the slightest. From the moment I first started the game on my PS5 to the moment I finished it, I wanted more. This is how games should be made! […]– WeeHammy
  • Stellar Blade is one of the best action RPGs you can play right now. It looks incredible – from the character design to the enemies to the world, everything is just right. The world-building is top-notch, the combat is super fun, and the soundtrack? I’ve been listening to it on repeat since the PS5 release – it’s that good!– メイプル
  • Looks fantastic, the game is a lot of fun. The battles are entertaining. The outfits are cool. Exploring is fun. So far, I really like it.– Solo-K

The enthusiasm is so great that even minor criticisms of the story or clunky jump passages fade into the background. The community is particularly celebrating how smooth and technically clean Stellar Blade runs on PC – and that’s anything but a given with PlayStation ports, as The Last of Us Part 1 proved at the time.

So if you’re in the mood for a spectacular action adventure with opulent visuals and cool combat, there’s no way around Stellar Blade right now – you can read more about it in our review, which you’ll find in the link box.
