Our editorial team has rummaged through the Spring Sale for you to recommend 5 great and affordable role-playing games

There are thousands of games on sale at particularly low prices in the Steam Spring Sale. And if you don’t want to browse through the huge catalog yourself, our editorial team can give you some valuable tips. Today we present some outstanding role-playing games that you can pick up for 10 euros or less

Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr

(Genre:Action role-playing game – Release: June 2018 – Price: 10 Euro, 80 percent discount)

I’m probably making myself very unpopular with a lot of people with the following sentence: I enjoy Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr a lot more than the Diablo games. But before you get your pitchforks and torches out, let me explain!

Inquisition just has so much oomph – and I can choose which weapon I want to use before each mission, which makes my motivation skyrocket. The abilities are not linked to my character, but to the damage dealer of my choice. So sometimes I go into gobbler mobs with a katana twirl, sometimes I burst unsuspecting chaos mercenaries with a shot from my sniper

The atmospheric 40K setting and the entertaining mission structure always invite you to “just one more round”. And with my irreplaceable co-op battle sister, the whole thing is even more fun

Of course, Warhammer 40,000: Inquisition – Martyr is not perfect. The progression system, for example, is incredibly fiddly, the story just plods along and all the crafting and upgrade options seem a bit contrived and superfluous. But you can easily ignore all that and get a really fun game for a few (co-op) evenings for 10 euros in the sale. And honestly, guys: The arcs … package jumps into hordes are really first class!

The Dwarves

(Genre:Tactical RPG – Release: December 2016 – Price: 10 Euro, 75 percent discount)

In the early 2000s, I could hardly save myself from novels about the individual fantasy races. My favorite of all, however, was Markus Heitz’s series about the bearded little axe-wielders. Since then, I’ve called them my favorite fantasy race and always look forward to making at least one dwarf in role-playing games.

The fire in my fan heart was then rekindled in 2016 when King Art surprisingly came around the corner with a tactical role-playing game based on the first volume of The Dwarves. What a great idea! After all, it’s not a matter of course that even such successful German novels get their own game! The dwarves were granted this, however, and then a really great spin-off was forged from it.

Of course, this isn’t a triple-A production and it certainly has its rough edges in terms of presentation and playability. But I would never have thought that this game could tell the story I love so much in such detail and still leave room for new discoveries! As the short-bearded Tungdil, I can even make decisions on a regular basis! A must for every fan of the book series and also a thoroughly enjoyable role-playing game with a great story.

The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion

(Genre: Role-playing game – Release: March 2006 – Price: 4 Euro, 75 percent discount)

I’ve just heard that Oblivion turns 18 tomorrow. Can you still play such an old ham today? For me, the answer is definitely yes The proof is that I just played the ageing role-playing game myself until my hard disk crashed. And what great fun it was!

This is mainly due to the great world and the quests I experience in Cyrodiil. I can spend days wandering through the forests and mountains, exploring caves and ruins and looting new equipment.

And above all, the numerous side quests and guilds provide plenty of variety and surprises. I free a painter from his own painting, solve a murder case or go on a treasure hunt. And when I’ve seen enough of the main game after hundreds of hours, there are two great expansions waiting for me

Of course, you have to make compromises with such an old game. Even with mods, the graphics won’t knock anyone’s socks off and the battles aren’t exactly exciting either. If you can overlook this, you get an incredible amount for 4 euros.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance

(Genre:Roleplaying Game – Release: (February 2018) – Price: 6 Euro, 80 percent discount)

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is not a simple role-playing game, but an exciting journey through medieval Bohemia. There are no rats lurking in the starting dungeon, I can’t find magical armor and I can’t just save the world. Instead, I get to experience life in the Middle Ages up close and personal

Rarely has it been so beautiful! The idyllic landscapes and historical locations are not only a feast for the eyes, but also encourage you to explore them for hours. There are hidden details to discover everywhere and even a short ride can quickly turn into an adventure of its own

First, however, we have to provide protagonist Heinrich with the necessary tools. The son of a blacksmith becomes a refugee due to a bloody civil war and has to see where he ends up. We are no hero! This becomes clear when we try to wield a sword without any combat experience. The young man even has to painstakingly learn how to read

For just 6 euros, Kingdom Come: Deliverance lets you experience the Middle Ages while telling an intense and realistic story. I would recommend the role-playing game for this bold and successful approach alone. I can confidently overlook weaknesses such as the annoying save system, bugs that occur too often and the somewhat clunky controls.

Tales of Symphonia

(Genre: JRPG – Release: August 2003 (February 2016 on Steam) – Price: 5 Euro, 75 percent discount)

Tales of Symphonia is still one of my favorite games in the famous Tales of series. This is not only because it was my first contact with the series, but also because the characters and their story are still burned into my brain to this day.

In contrast to many other Japanese role-playing games, the characters here don’t seem overly cool, but human, humorous and approachable. The young swordsman Lloyd, the chosen one Colette and their companions continue to grow together on their journey. In addition to heavy themes such as betrayal and loss, less big issues are also addressed, creating a very special dynamic.

Originally, Tales of Symphonia was released in 2003 for the GameCube. Since 2016, however, there has been a Steam version based on the PS3 port. And thanks to the cuddly graphics, the anime-like cutscenes and the real-time battle system, it doesn’t even look that old-fashioned

For 5 euros you get up to 80 hours of game time (depending on how many side quests you complete) and can do little wrong here and make me happy.

Is there something for you in your recommendations? Or do you already have all of these role-playing games in your library? If you want to buy even cheaper, you might find what you’re looking for in our tips for under 5 euros. If you already have enough games and want to share them with your family, you will soon benefit from an exciting new feature on Steam.
