After a long nomination period, the best games of 2022 have been decided according to Steam. And of course Elden Ring makes several appearances

2022 was in many ways the gurkiest year since 2021, but in the end there”s still some games that deserve an award – at least according to Steam! Like every year, the annual Steam Awards have been chosen for early 2023, with the nomination period kicking off back in the autumn.

By the way, you can also vote for the games you liked best in 2022 here on our site! Our ranking is of course more influential than that of such a small platform like Steam.

And now enough of the big Oscars pre-show banter – let”s jump straight to the winners.

  • (Game of the Year 2022): Unsurprisingly, Elden Ring takes the prize here, having taken people”s hearts by storm with its open world, unforgettable gameplay and a host of other strengths, even if they probably cursed constantly while playing.
  • (Labour of Love 2022): Cyberpunk 2077 has won back many alienated fans and gained new enthusiasts over the past year with major patches and an excellent Netflix series. On Steam alone, player numbers reached a new high.
  • (VR Game of the Year 2022): Many of you may not have noticed, but Hitman 3 now has an absolutely iconic VR mode where you can do even more killer shenanigans than in the main game. The YouTube videos alone are hilarious.
  • (Most Innovative Gameplay 2022): In the eternal struggle between cats and dogs, at least in 2022, the kitties came out on top.

Stray wins as the most innovative game with its unusual point of view. You can also see that quite well here:

  • Better with Friends 2022: What could be better than struggling to survive on a deserted island? That”s right: when someone else shares the misery. Raft wins the 2022 co-op award.
  • Excellent Visual Style 2022: If you ever want to make gaming strangers” jaws drop, there are definitely worse candidates for that than Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
  • Best Soundtrack 2022: It was legendary 25 years ago, but the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade soundtrack is also wowing people.
  • Deep Story: Four years later God of War (2018) really gets going on the PC – and promptly collects the Story Award.
  • Sit back and relax 2022: The perfect game to play with little siblings without arguing afterwards – Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.
  • Best game to play on the go 2022: On the Steam deck last year Death Stranding: Director”s Cut shone because the package delivery feeling probably comes across better when you”re also physically on the go while gaming. Tease.
  • Best Game You Suck At 2022: And Elden Ring wins a second award. Also unsurprising and very fitting, as no game was finished so many times in 2022 but also abandoned!
