Stalker 2: Patch 1.4 is here, improving combat and bringing dozens of bug fixes

The next update for Stalker 2 focuses primarily on improvements to combat and enemy AI, but also brings numerous bug fixes.

After update 1.3, we tested Stalker 2 again. The result: the shooter gets an upgrade, but it’s far from perfect. More bugs need to be fixed and problems solved. With patch 1.4, the developers are now taking a new step. The update is available now and makes enemies smarter, among other things. Of course, it also includes a lot of bug fixes.

What’s in patch 1.4?

The complete patch notes (in English) can be found on page 2 of the article. But we’ve also summarized all the important information for you here:

  • NPCs use cover more often in combat and new cover options
  • Improved behavior for mutants and humans in combat
  • New alert state for mutants (dogs start barking, for example)
  • Mutants now eat corpses lying around
  • Burer can now throw grenades back
  • NPCs now only throw a limited number of grenades, and only if you stay in cover for a long time
  • Snork, Chimera, and Bayun can now stagger if you hit them right before their jump attack
  • The damage of the rocket launcher has been increased
  • Enemies with shotguns can no longer hit you from long range
  • Weapon stats have been adjusted and their calculation improved
  • New face variants for NPCs have been added

In addition, the update includes a host of bug fixes for quests, AI, and more. Performance and graphics have also been improved, and level design has been adjusted in many areas. You can find all the patch notes in detail on page 2 of the article.

Patch notes

AI, combat, and mutants

  • NPCs now seek cover more often and have more options for taking cover in combat.
  • Minor improvements and optimizations to animated NPC scripts.
  • Fixed an issue where A-Life NPCs would stop moving after switching to offline mode.
  • Improved the behavior of mutants in combat.
  • Fixed an issue where Strelok’s weapon would be invisible in his hands during boss fights.
  • Fixed an issue where flesh mutants would hide to ambush players after they dodged a jump attack.

  • Fixed an issue where an anomaly created by Electric Poltergeist was invisible. Fixed issues where NPCs would walk through doors or overlap them during combat.

  • Fixed general issues where NPCs couldn’t reach animated poses that were too far away.
    Implemented melee attacks for NPCs.
    Fixed an issue where NPCs could get stuck in an ambush pose.
  • Adjusted aim accuracy for NPCs in low cover.
  • Fixed an issue where mutants with collars would appear in A-pose after walking away and returning to them.
  • Adjusted the animation of the mutants’ legs.
  • Fixed an issue where NPCs could remain idle after taking critical damage.
  • Fixed an issue where Korshunov would not respond in A-pose after the boss fight during the “Down Below” mission.
  • Fixed an issue where NPCs and mutant corpses would change their position after leaving and returning.

  • Inconsistencies in the AI behavior of generic NPCs in Zalissya have been fixed. NPCs now throw grenades when the target lingers in one spot for too long, rather than after a cooldown.
  • Improved AI behavior of NPCs when leaving combat.
  • Snork, Chimera, and Bayun can now stagger when the player shoots them immediately before a jump attack.
    Fixed an issue where mutants with telekinetic abilities could not throw items or corpses directly at the player or pick them up.
  • Fixed an issue where Bayun did not deal damage during his jump attack.
    Fixed the unpredictable behavior of A-Life NPCs after attacking enemy hideouts.
  • Fixed an issue where NPCs could see enemies through the ground.
  • Fixed an issue where NPCs could stand up and walk away during a dialogue when the emission had ended.
  • Fixed an issue where A-Life NPCs could navigate into restricted areas (e.g., enemy faction bases, closed locations with quest NPCs).

Balance

  • Fixed an issue where the player could install physical protection enhancements twice for the PSZ-9I Falcon armor.
  • Rebalanced explosion damage:

– RPM-74: Armor penetration increased;

– Explosions now deal more damage to high-rank targets;

– RPG damage increased;

– Grenade lethal range reduced;

– Stun range of RPGs increased;

  • Some silencers have been added to the stashes.
  • The path of the lightning bolts in the boss arena with Strelok has been adjusted.
  • Khors can now upgrade the Zircon Suit.
  • Inconsistent upgrade requirements for the Armored Bandit Jacket have been fixed.
  • Weapon stats and their calculation logic have been updated.
  • Fixed an issue where stamina was being consumed even when no action was available.
  • Fixed an issue where no technician in the game could install the “Extra Barrel Upgrade” for SVDM-2 and Lynx sniper rifles.
  • NPC squads now have a limited number of grenades in combat.

Audio

  • The audio environment at the “Slag Heap Hub” location has been improved.
  • Fixed an issue where masked NPC voices did not have an audio filter when their general dialogue was interrupted in hubs.
  • Fixed an issue where rain drops could be heard for certain props underground.
  • Improved the sound dampening for grenades thrown outside from indoors.

Open World

  • General issues have been fixed where NPCs would not return to their original poses after leaving scripted animations, such as due to combat.
  • Fixed an issue where NPCs would constantly switch between looting and emission behavior when there was a corpse near a safe house.
  • Fixed an issue where NPCs would ask the player to hide their weapon when there was an obstacle between the NPC and the player.
  • Fixed an issue where the player camera would collide with the hatch when using a ladder.
  • A new fallout shelter has been added to the dining hall of the chemical factory.
  • Some animation poses in Quiet’s camp on the Wild Island have been adjusted.
  • The radius of the fallout shelter in the Noon base on the Wild Island has been adjusted.
  • Fixed an issue where the player could get stuck behind the door in Sidorovich’s bunker.
  • Fixed an issue where the fallout shelter in the Noontide base would not protect the player after saving/loading during the “Just Like The Good Old Days” mission.
  • Added missing UA localization for the NPC Jager in the concrete factory.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the animation of wounded guards in the chemical factory to be interrupted during the “In Search Of Past Glory” mission.

  • “Stealth Kill” has been moved to a separate option in the control settings.
  • Inconsistencies with reassigning the “Change Ammo Type” action in the control menu have been fixed.
  • Fixed an issue where the health warning screen image was corrupted in HDR mode on HDR1000 displays.
  • Fixed an issue where the HUD transparency option was not working.
  • Fixed an issue where dynamic shadows from flashlights were appearing jagged.
  • Fixed a pop-up window that prompted to restart the game after almost every change to the graphics settings.

    With Patch 1.4, the developers’ work on Stalker 2 is of course far from complete. A recently published roadmap announced further innovations that are scheduled to appear by the end of June. Among other things, there will be official mod support and further improvements to A-Life. Two new weapons will also be added.
