According to insiders in the gaming scene, Sony has a new handheld console in the works. There are already rumors about price, release date and more.
With the PSP, Sony already launched a handheld console on the market in 2005. However, according to industry insider Tom Henderson, the manufacturer is now planning a new handheld console codenamed QLite. In this article you can find all the information known so far about price, release, and more.
PlayStation QLite – New handheld from Sony
The PlayStation Portable was the first attempt for Sony to bring a handheld console to their customers in 2005. The then-new PSP was well received by gamers.
The manufacturer then had less success with the PS Vita in 2011. Due to a lack of commercial success, Sony decided to stop plans for further handheld consoles after the Vita for the time being.
Now, however, the manufacturer has resumed plans for a new handheld console.

PlayStation QLite – price speculation
On the “Iron Lords” podcast, Tom Henderson talked about Sony’s plans. He assumes the QLite could come on the market for a price of around $200 (about 180€) .
For comparison, the Nintendo Switch (OLED) is currently around 339€, the Logitech G Cloud started at 350€ and the Steam Deck is currently at least 419€, depending on the model.
In terms of price, the QLite does not look that bad at first glance. However, both the Steam Deck and the Nintendo Switch do not rely on an Internet connection. Thus, they are a big step ahead of the competition.
The QLite is probably supposed to be marketed more as a supplement to the home console, similar to Logitech’s G Cloud, and always needs as stable an Internet connection as possible.
Sony PlayStation QLite – Possible Release Date
As Tom Henderson also speculates on the Iron Lords podcast, the QLite could still be released in November 2023.
It could also be that the new handheld will launch alongside the rumored PlayStation 5 Slim.
An official announcement including a release date for the QLite can probably be expected at Sony’s State of Play this summer.
