Sony also wants to jump on the handheld bandwagon. The company is said to be working on a new console that will work closely with the Playstation 5.

Sony is currently working on its own gaming handheld. This (reported by the US site Insider Gaming).

The console is codenamed Q Lite, according to the report – and unlike many current rivals, is not expected to focus on cloud gaming.

Tied to home console

Nevertheless, the Q Lite is not a full-fledged gaming console on the go, according to Insider Gaming. Instead, the handheld falls more into the Playstation 5 accessories category

Because Q Lite is supposed to rely on Remote Play and thus connect to the Playstation 5. A full-fledged successor to PSP and Playstation Vita is therefore not currently expected.

In addition, the console will have to be permanently connected to the Internet.

The extent to which the handheld console will work without Playstation 5 is not yet clear from the article.

On the other hand, they already comment in detail on the expected hardware of the Q Lite. It is to be released with an eight-inch full HD display with touch function and up to 60 Hertz refresh rate.

In addition, adaptive triggers are expected to adopt the haptic feedback of the Playstation 5, as well as other standard features such as volume controls, speakers and a jack input.

Insider Gaming does not mention a release date in the report yet. Nevertheless, one can already narrow down the time window in which the handheld is supposed to appear.

They expect a release before the Playstation 5 Pro for the 2024 Christmas shopping season, but only after Sony has released a detachable drive for the console.

What do you think? Is Sony on the right track with developing the handheld as an extension of the Playstation 5? Or would you rather see a standalone console similar to the PS Vita? Write us your opinion on the Japanese manufacturer’s new project in the comments!
