Environmental artist Christian Gomm has taken Unreal Engine 5 and impressively recreated the small village of Flusswald in it.

You didn’t really think we’d let 2021 end without showing you another game in Unreal Engine 5. That’s why we’re presenting you with a very fresh video by environmental artist Christian Gomm. He actually works for Myrkur Games, who are currently working on a new action adventure called (Echoes of the End sit).

But to work on his photogrammetry workflow, Gomm uses an Unreal Engine 5 version of the small site River Forest, which is a mixture of his own photoscan assets and materials, megascans and his own substance materials. What represents an experimental kit for Gomm looks like the dream of the next Elder Scrolls for us. See for yourself:

Before you scroll into the comments disappointed, please remember that YouTube compresses the videos on the one hand, and on the other hand Gomm’s PC is not a NASA computer, so he can only afford a stable frame rate at 1080p. Nevertheless, we hope that the next Elder Scrolls will come close to this graphic quality.

If you want to see some high-resolution screenshots and are generally interested in Gomm’s work, it’s best to check out his Artstation. By the way: It only took the artist a few days to create this rendering, as he explains:

‘Most of the environment was created in a few days. I then slowly expanded it by creating new photo scans, including many tree stumps and trunks, all but one stone surface, some bark materials and pieces of foliage. Almost all objects in the scene have Nanite activated and have a polygon count of 100,000 to 15 million triangles.

What about the NextGen upgrade of Skyrim Special and Anniversary Edition?

Yes, there is supposed to be a free NextGen upgrade, which unfortunately we haven’t seen anything about yet. That’s because apart from confirmation that there’s to be a graphical upgrade for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, information is very thin on the ground. However, the upgrade is unlikely to be as breathtaking as the Unreal Engine 5 version in the video.

What do you think of the Unreal Engine 5 scenes presented above? Have you already done some graphic experiments in the graphics engine yourself? What do you think The Elder Scrolls 6 should look like? Let us know in the comments.
