The wacky open-world series is coming back – as a reboot. A new Saints Row is now officially confirmed.

Saints Row is getting a reboot: that’s according to the new cover image on the official websitev, which now shows a wall with the graffiti lettering “Rebooting” next to a stylised skull. But that is not all.

At the same time, the host of gamescom Open Night Live, Geoff Keighley, published a post on Twitter in which he refers to the reboot. He also promotes the games fair’s grand opening show on Wednesday 25 August at 20:00.

Keighley explains that this year’s announcements are expected to be packed. So apparently viewers can expect news on the new Saints Row, among other things.

Meanwhile, the official Twitter account of Saints Row confirmed that it is a new game and not a remaster, as the third part of the series was relaunched last time. In addition, the developers stated that they plan to reveal more about the new game in a few days, which would fit well with the timing of gamescom Opening Night Live.

Not quite out of the blue

As early as May, the first hints came to light that something seemed to be going on in the Saints Row universe. A court case between Apple and Epic Games brought documents into the public domain that revolved around future exclusive games at Epic.

Among them was the indication that Epic had sought exclusive distribution for Dead Island 2 and Saints Row 5. With the latest info, it’s clear that the game is most likely the reboot.

GTA in loopy

The Saints Row series relies on large open-world cities that players traverse in cars. Mixed with a lot of chaos and shooting, the gameplay gives the impression of an out-of-control Grand Theft Auto. The story of the previous parts of the series relies on overdrawn characters, shock effects, a lot of black humour and overall a highly exaggerated presentation.
