Even during the Game Awards, a major free update with new quests and the highly anticipated photo mode for the 2025 Game of the Year is being released.
What a night for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and French developer Sandfall! The critics’ and fans’ favorite swept the board at The Game Awards, winning awards in nine categories, including the coveted title of “Game of the Year 2025.”
Not only the developers, but also the players can continue celebrating: as a thank you, the studio is releasing a huge update with tons of new content during the show – completely free of charge.
Highlights of Patch 1.5.0
This major free update fixes several bugs, improves graphics and performance, and optimizes Clair Obscur for Steam Deck. But you can also look forward to a lot of new content:
- New area: You can now play a new quest in Act 3. Verso’s Draft offers a playful, colorful environment, lots of new bosses, and surprises. To enter the area, you need Esquie’s diving ability.
- Photo Mode: A game that looks like a work of art needs a photo mode. This highly anticipated feature is finally making its way into the game. You can access it at any time during gameplay and play around with different settings.
- New weapons and Lumina give you even more build variety and experimentation in combat.
- New costumes: We all love the baguette outfits and swimwear. Now every character gets even more choices in their wardrobe.
- New bosses as an endgame challenge in the Endless Tower
The update is available now for free. On page 2 of this article, you’ll find an overview of all the patch notes – the translation into German was done with AI.

- Verso’s Drafts, a new playable environment that takes the characters from Expedition 33 to a brand new location with new enemy encounters and surprises 🙂
- Located on the World Map, next to Lumière – Accessible from Act III.
- Esquies‘ underwater ability is required!
- New text and UI localizations for Czech, Ukrainian, Latin American Spanish, Turkish, Vietnamese, Thai, and Indonesian. This brings the total number of supported languages to 19, with more to come!
- New costumes for each member of the expedition, giving players even more customization options during their adventure.
- New boss battles for late-game players to tackle in the Endless Tower – These are variations of iconic bosses from the main game, designed to be even more challenging.
- New Luminas and weapons added.
- The quest item “Old Key” has been added to the final area of the game – previously, it was only available during the prologue. This addition gives players a second chance to collect all the journals in a single playthrough.
New Features
- Photo Mode has been added, with numerous settings and options to allow players to get creative and capture their favorite moments from the game—accessible at any time via the pause menu!
- Lumina Sets feature added, allowing players to save up to 50 different Lumina loadouts to adapt to a variety of combat tactics at any time.
- Added “Abandon Battle” option to the pause menu, which can now also be opened during battle.
- Added a setting for HUD Scale, which allows players to adjust the size of in-game HUD elements from 80% to 120%.
- Added support for FSR 4, including AMD Temporal Upscaling for sharper graphics and Frame Generation for smoother gameplay on compatible GPUs.
- Added new filters for Pictos and Luminas and improved the user interface (UI).
- Added input remapping (key mapping) for controllers.
Improvements for handheld PCs
- The game is now certified for Steam Deck and ROG Ally! (Note: The original text says “ROG Xbox Ally,” which is probably a typo for Asus ROG Ally).
- General improvement of text readability.
- Fixed several issues with fog and lighting:
- Overly intense effects during the boss fight in the Flying Manor (which also affected some cutscenes).
- Overexposed areas in the Visages.
- Areas that were too dark in the Endless Tower.
- Fixed an issue where FPS was capped at 30 on Steam Deck.
- VSync can now be disabled correctly in the settings when playing on Steam Deck.
- Graphics settings are now adjusted for Steam Deck users.
- Improved initial setup process:
- Controller input is now supported in the setup wizard (no longer just touchscreen).
- External controllers now switch seamlessly with Steam Deck controls.
Bug Fixes
- Fixed a bug where using “Battle Retry” after a cutscene or auto-trigger would spawn the player outside the world if the last save was made in a different location.
- The game time displayed on save files now correctly reflects the total game time, including time spent in Game Overs.
- (Note: This fix does not retroactively update existing save files.)
- The behavior of the inventory has been corrected so that the sort order is now retained even after closing the game menu.
- Fixed an issue that prevented access to the Intel XeSS Frame Generation setting in PC Game Pass.
- Fixed a bug that blocked the use of certain diacritical characters (e.g., ^, ~, ´, `) in Windows after launching the title.
- Fixed a bug in Breaking Death: All enemies were always “broken” when the character died. However, it should only break the enemy that killed the character. Consequently, it should no longer work if the character kills itself.
- The turn order of characters during a First Strike, which is triggered by attacking an enemy on the map, now correctly respects the speed value of the characters.
- Fixed a bug where Boucharo gave +150% critical hit chance instead of +50%.
- Fixed a bug where some Luminas unintentionally gave hidden +10% damage:
- Sweet Kill
- Teamwork
- Dead Energy II
- First Strike and others
