While CD Projekt Red’s event focused mainly on Cyberpunk 2077, there was also a small but entertaining Witcher announcement.

Not only the witcher Geralt, but also his brave horse Roach (also called Plötze in this country) is famous as a book, game and now also series character. Since The Witcher 3, however, the Witcher’s four-legged companion has also become notorious for his special ability to suddenly materialise on the roof of a house and cause entertaining glitches.

Reason enough for CD Projekt Red to dedicate a game of its own to the noble steed: Roach Race is now free to play on mobile phones, and even within Cyberpunk 2077. By the way, there’s finally information on the big story DLC Phantom Liberty for the role-playing game!

What is Roach Race anyway?

Roach Race is a sidescroller in which you, as the horse Roach, try to gallop as far as possible through towns and landscapes from the Witcher games by avoiding obstacles such as fences or monsters. If you stumble over a gate or a griffin, your worried owner Geralt will catch up with you. There is no official trailer, but thankfully gameplay has already been uploaded to YouTube:

By the way, Roach Race’s start menu is reminiscent of the official Gwent map by Roach, which in turn is a self-deprecating homage to the various glitches the poor horse fell victim to. There are also small Eastereggs within the game that are reminiscent of funny roach bugs: If you collect a carrot, for example, the horse lifts its butt up in an unnatural way.

How do I play Roach Race?

Playable in Cyberpunk 2077: You can now play the very simple but also entertaining game at slot machines in Night City when you download update 1.6. If you are clever, a game designer in Cyberpunk 2077 will even approach you and reward you for your performance.

Free for Mobile: Furthermore, you can play Roach Race on your smartphone for free without owning Cyberpunk by installing it for either (Android) or (iOS) . By the way, the developers announced (in Livestream) on 6 September that they would like to develop more of these mini-games for Cyberpunk if the fans like Roach Race.

What’s happening right now with Cyberpunk 2077

What’s new in Cyberpunk 2077: All further information about yesterday’s Cyberpunk event can of course also be found on GameStar: We have summarised the most important facts about the newly announced story DLC Phantom Liberty with Keanu Reeves and also provide you with all information about the big update 1.6.

How Cyberpunk 2077 will continue in the future: A separate article will tell you what will happen to the role-playing game afterwards. CD Projekt Red has already revealed what kind of content and improvements will be included in upcoming updates and patches.

What do you think of Roach Race? Will you try out the sidescroller on the arcade machines of Night City or play the game on your smartphone? Or are you just happy about the entertaining Easteregg and glad that there is a Witcher reference in Cyberpunk 2077 after all? Feel free to post your opinion in the comments!
