Sony has announced the PlayStation Plus titles for September in a blog post. However, at the end of the blog post is an unpleasant surprise for subscribers.

First the good news. Sony announced the PlayStation Plus games for the coming month yesterday afternoon. These include last year’s Saints Row, the first-person adventure Generation Zero and the MMO Black Desert – Traveler Edition for the PlayStation 4. You can add the titles to your library from 5 September to 2 October  Until 4 September, you still have the chance to grab the titles from August.

who owns such a subscription may have skimmed the (blog entry)  But you should take a closer look, especially at the end. Under the heading “The last chance to download games from August” you will suddenly find the announcement of a price increase – by up to 26 percent!
In the matter of consumer protection, this is probably not an announcement that should be mentioned in passing. All the more unpleasant is the fact that this price increase is to take effect from 6 September
The following is a list of the price changes:

  • PlayStation Plus Essential
    • Continued: 59,99 Euro per year
    • From 6 September: 71,99 Euro (price increase of 20%)
  • PlayStation Plus Extra
    • Continued: 99,99 Euro per year
    • From 6 September: 125.99 euros (price increase of 26 %)
  • PlayStation Plus Premium
    • Continued: 119,99 Euro per year
    • From 6 September: 151.99 euros (price increase of over 26%)

By the way: The press release even mentions the “old” subscription prices. Only at the end of the message (and not very conspicuously marked) is the information that the prices are increasing. In the social media, too, people are giving the price increase a wide berth.

What will change if you already subscribe to PlayStation Plus?

Those who have already signed up for a 12-month subscription will not see the price increase until the next annual billing in November. However, if you change your subscription after 6 September, the new prices will apply.
If you want to cancel your subscription, you can find (here) the corresponding instructions. By the way, Sony justifies this price increase with the fact that they want to continue to offer valuable advantages and high-quality games. It’s best to decide for yourself whether this steep price increase is worth it for the titles on offer. We have more PlayStation news for you in our God of War report.
