Dread Hunger is rising higher and higher on Steam. The survival game relies on a mix of survival combat and multiplayer betrayal mechanics.

A new success story is happening on Steam right now: the survival game Dread Hunger, which mixes a group of sailors’ struggle against the Arctic cold with Among Us, has been growing seemingly unstoppably in the last few weeks.

So Dread Hunger recently set new records for the number of simultaneously active players. The timing plays an important role here, after all, the pirate adventure was released as a full version from Early Access on 26 January 2022.

Take a look? The story trailer shows you how dark the survival game is shaping up:

More and more active players

The curve of Dread Hunger’s player numbers is impressive: While still in Early Access, the survival game eked out a shadowy existence with an average of well under 1,000 simultaneously active users. Since the full release, this number has been growing constantly and rapidly – up to the all-time high of 61,712 players!

The growth thus amounts to over 1,100 percent. On average, more than 15,000 players were in the action at the same time in the last 30 days. So far, the curve does not seem to have reached its peak, nor is there any end in sight. Apparently, Dread Hunger is just finding its fan base.

By the way, the interest among players can also be seen on Twitch, where constant viewer numbers are also measurable. However, not to an extent that is likely to significantly influence the great success in active player numbers. The average monthly viewer numbers in the last 12 months were between 150 and 3,600.

What is Dread Hunger all about?

If you know Among Us, you know what Dread Hunger is about. A multiplayer group of seafarers must manoeuvre their ship through several Arctic levels, in between searching for coal fuel, confronting hunger through hunting and so on.

The special thing: Among the crew are two covert traitors who not only have to sabotage all plans and assassinate the honest survivors, but also draw on sinister supernatural powers in the process.

This results in exciting mind games, many (false) suspicions and thus a game dynamic that is sometimes carried by cooperation and sometimes by antagonism.

Have you tried Dread Hunger yet? What do you think about the unusual gameplay?
