If you miss Turok and a Far Cry of the old school, you should keep an eye on Project Ferocious. What is already known about the new survival shooter

Wild times they were back then, when the dinosaurs ruled the earth. It”s been about as long since primeval shooter gems like Turok were on everyone”s lips, at least in internet years.

Much like their bird ancestors, dino-shooters disappeared and became relics of the past. But wouldn”t it be nice to go on a dino hunt again like back then in Turok? The new survival shooter Project Ferocious wants to close the gap and follow in the monstrous footsteps of Turok and Co. from 2023.

What is already known about it and what has been shown so far looks damn oldschool! And, by the way, it reminds us of the very first Far Cry. Let us introduce Project Ferocious to you!

This is what the dino-shooter looks like

If your eyes only really perceive moving things, take a look at the trailer of Project Ferocious. It shows the mood the first-person shooter wants to convey:

You”re watching a montage of several scenes showing different elements of the game. Single player sneak, shoot the level bricks to pieces and fear fast raptors and a massive T-Rex. There”s also giant crabs to see.

This is what Project Ferocious is all about

A couple of journalists disappeared while trying to explore a mysterious fog that covers part of the ocean. Their last call for help now lures the player to the area. Who finds an island that shouldn”t even be there! And so, with your camera, you go in search of the missing scribblers.

The environments on the island look spiffy, if you”re into gritty art design with a prehistoric twist:

Unlike you read in job descriptions for journalists, the character grabs the first shotgun lying around on the island. The reason for this makes sense: In the trailer above, she practically takes the shooting iron out of the hands of a badly battered person who seems to have been torn to pieces by something bestial

And indeed, something soon darts through the picture, its shape and speed unsettlingly reminiscent of a velociraptor In Project Ferocious, players encounter various dinosaurs. According to the (Steam description) hiding should help in this case. So sneaking also plays a role, not only against the beasts of primeval times.

In addition to the dinos, military forces are also at work on the island. The trailer shows several battles against a mysterious faction that is trying to cover something up.

With its spartan, cold-coloured appearance Project Ferocious gives the impression that it wants to inherit the original Far Cry from Crytek. In 2004, the shooter was one of the first shooters to feature a hardcore difficulty level and highly dangerous enemy AI.

So in Project Ferocious we”re supposed to fight our way through a multitude of enemies and use our brains to do so, different tactics and all. And thanks to destructible level elements and other physical treats we also get a lot of visuals. For example, something like this:

What else is there to know?

According to the latest statements, the indie developer OMYOG is aiming for a release of Project Ferocious in 2023  Incidentally, the person is developing the game alone and, according to the Twitter description, is using the Unity 3D engine, the scan data library Quixel as well as Blender.

The Return of the Dinosaurs

Also beyond Project Ferocious: The dino revival in the shooter sector is in full swing! You can play the mildly insane Second Extinction right now, while the completely bonkers Exoprimal is due out in 2023.

Dino-Shooter Instinction: What kind of game is behind the grandiose graphics? (UPDATE)

Ach, and Instinction wants to stage dino-survival as an adventure and look extra snazzy doing it thanks to UE5:

What do you think of the revival of shooter dinos in general and Project Ferocious in particular? Feel free to leave us your thoughts in the comments!
