Followers of action-packed beat ’em ups were recently treated to another batch of exciting footage, some six weeks ahead of Mortal Kombat 1’s release date. A fresh gameplay trailer brings a legendary character of the series into the spotlight: Reptile – or as he is called in the trailer: Banished (“The Banished”). Reptile is a veteran of the series and is one of the few characters that have been around since the first installment, back then as a secret boss enemy.

In a gripping story sequence, Reptile reveals the reason for his banishment to his peers. “The fact that I can transform into a human has made me an outsider in the eyes of my people,” he confesses while in the company of fighters like Baraka and Kung Lao. In the trailer, Reptile is seen in both human form and in his reptilian form.

What’s special is that the trailer shows how seamlessly it can switch between these two forms in battle, an impressive feature that will be implemented in the game. Even a hybrid form, in which Reptile only shows his upper body in a reptilian appearance to spit acid, is presented. In addition, his ability to turn invisible for a short time and suddenly appear behind his opponent is impressively staged.

In addition to Reptile’s gameplay, action from Ashrah, a demoness from the Netherrealm, as well as from the Chaos Cleric Havik will also be shown. Of course, the brutal finisher moves can’t be missed, which have been taken to a new level in this sequel to the franchise. The release date of Mortal Kombat 1 is September 19 and the game will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and PC. In terms of plot, this installment represents a reboot of the series in a sense, as fans will now be immersed in an MK universe recreated by Liu Kang, the Fire God.
