The first trailer for Divinity is an official announcement unlike any we’ve seen before. What do we know about the new RPG?

Larian let the cat out of the bag at the 2025 Game Awards – or rather, a roaring lion: A new Divinity is coming! And what a game it is. The next role-playing game in the series is set to be even bigger than Baldur’s Gate 3. In the first cinematic trailer, things are already so intense that you might want to avoid eating while watching it.

What do we know about Divinity? Not much, but we’ll summarize all the info for you. The spectacular trailer alone speaks volumes:

No Original Sin, huge ambitions

The next Larian game will not be Divinity: Original Sin 3. The publishing director of the Belgian studio explicitly announced this yesterday – and now he’s trolling around on Twitter as usual:

Instead, the game is simply called Divinity, making it the successor to 2002’s Divine Divinity. But don’t ask us about the timeline, as nothing is known about it yet. However, Larian assures us that no prior knowledge of the complex world is required.

Divinity is a fantasy brand designed entirely by Larian – so this time they won’t be restricted by a set of rules like those of Dungeons & Dragons in Baldur’s Gate 3. Divinity also features various species such as elves, dwarves, orcs, and lizardmen, but all with their own twists. Elves, for example, are cannibals.

What does the trailer reveal? The video shows a ritual burning that takes place during a harvest festival in painfully realistic detail – so cults play a role again, as is classic for the Divinity series. In addition, dark energy bursts out of the sacrificed man, which then forms a statue, as we saw in a marketing campaign at the Game Awards (which also leaked Divinity in advance).

As usual, the setting is medieval dark fantasy, combining bright colors and cheerful music with some truly gruesome events. Larian simply has a very special sense of humor.

You can find more information in the official announcement of the game: “The gods are silent. Rivellon bleeds. New powers are stirring. Created by the team that brought you Baldur’s Gate 3. Larian unleashes its ambitions to bring you an RPG with more scope and depth than ever before.”

So it might be a good idea to start saving up your vacation days now. Baldur’s Gate 3 has already eclipsed most other role-playing games, and if Larian wants to go even bigger – oh boy.

Divinity does not yet have a release date. Such a big game naturally takes a lot of development time – but on the other hand, Larian has already hinted in the past that it wants to start the next projects with a long early access phase again.

With Baldur’s Gate 3, a year and a half passed between the first cinematic trailer and the EA launch. So maybe it won’t be that long before we can at least try out the beginning of the Divinity game.
