The CyberMP mod aims to turn Cyberpunk into a true multiplayer experience and is making great strides in doing so.

Modders have been trying to give CD Projekt Red’s game a genuine multiplayer mode since 2021. The fan project for Cyberpunk 2077 was first presented on a larger scale in the summer of 2024. Since then, a lot has happened with CyberMP, as a recently completed closed beta shows.

Street racing through Night City

Among other things, a feature for online racing was tested in the closed beta. You can see what that looks like in the following YouTube video:

Whether you’re racing through Night City in a Porsche, navigating tight corners on a bike, or driving a truck through the Badlands, the mod offers a variety of race types.

At the end of the video, you can also see PvP battles between multiple players fighting each other with katanas, pistols, and sniper rifles.

According to the team behind CyberMP, the following features have been successfully tested:

  • Improvements in the synchronization of players and ahreugen
  • A new overlay and game modes for racing and PvP
  • The stability of the entire platform
  • A new JavaScript module
  • The functionality of CyberMP servers on Linux

Modding team is satisfied

On the Discord channel for the project, the team, which now consists of ten people, has come to a thoroughly positive conclusion after the beta. According to their own statement, it was the “most stable and successful” beta test to date. They go on to say:

In the last few days, there have been only a few crashes of the game client, some of which were not directly related to the CyberMP client. All gameplay bugs discovered have either already been fixed or are currently being fixed. We believe we are reaching a new level and are preparing for even more extensive changes.

The mod is primarily intended to enable racing and a deathmatch mode. There are therefore no plans to allow players to complete missions together in the style of GTA Online. There is currently no release date for CyberMP, but the creators have indicated that further updates will follow soon. More information is available via the Discord channel.
