While the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC offer smooth 4K, owners of the original Nintendo Switch will have to settle for 30 FPS in MGS 4 and Peace Walker
Konami has revealed the performance targets for the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2. For you, this means you’ll soon be able to play Metal Gear Solid 4 in 4K resolution at 60 frames per second.
Konami published this information onits websiteand it applies not only to Metal Gear Solid 4 but also to Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker.
According to the information, the games will run in 4K resolution at 60 frames per second on the Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, and PC—though on PC, this naturally depends to some extent on the hardware.
Resolution and Frame Rates for Nintendo Platforms and Xbox Series S
The Nintendo Switch 2 and the Xbox Series S are targeting 1440p at 60 fps as well. In handheld mode for Metal Gear Solid 4, as well as for Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker in general, you can expect 1080p at 60 fps on the Switch 2.
Bringing up the rear is the original Nintendo Switch, which doesn’t exceed 1080p and 30 frames per second when docked. In handheld mode, it runs at 30 fps with a resolution of 720p. Interestingly, the same applies to *Peace Walker*, which originally launched on the PlayStation Portable—the title already ran at 60 frames per second on the Xbox 360.
On the Switch 2, *Metal Gear Solid 4* offers selectable display modes: “Adjusted” and “Original.” However, handheld mode is limited to the “Original” setting. It’s safe to assume that one of these modes matches the visuals of the other platforms but results in a slightly more unstable frame rate.
The Significance of Metal Gear Solid 4
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was released in 2008 exclusively for the PS3. Due to the console’s complex Cell processor architecture, a port was long considered impossible. The fact that the title now runs in 4K on modern platforms is a milestone in video game preservation.
Graphics Options for Peace Walker and Release Details
