Marathon: Players use a trick from Battlefield to take out entire enemy teams

Whenever you hear a drone, be on your guard—it could cost you your life.

In Marathon, players resort to an “ancient” tactic from the Battlefield bag of tricks. All they need is a drone and something that explodes. These abilities are available to a class that isn’t actually designed for direct combat, but can still cause a lot of damage with this trick.

The DIY explosive drone

In the extraction shooter Marathon, players choose from so-called Runner Shells.
These are basically hero classes, all of which come with unique active and passive abilities. The Thief can operate a remote-controlled drone, which is actually used to stun enemies or steal their loot.
However, when combined with a mine, the drone takes on a whole new function:

As you can see in the video, the player places a claymore, an anti-personnel mine that explodes when an enemy is in front of it, on the drone.

When he flies the drone close to an enemy, the mine detonates. The damage is enough to kill at least wounded players. You can see how deadly this can be in the following clip with a quadruple kill:

Claymores are already a danger on the ground and are used by players to lure others into traps or mine loot. With this tactic, the threat can now even come from the air and from any direction.

What does this have to do with Battlefield?

In the current Battlefield 6, there is an almost identical trick. The Recon drone is loaded with C4, flown into a group of enemies, and then detonated by remote control. However, this has already been seen in earlier installments of the series.

Throughout the series, Battlefield players have always tried to equip all drivable or flyable vehicles with explosives and crash them into their opponents. Another classic alongside the drone is the Jeep equipped with C4 and/or Claymores.

Incidentally, the Thief’s grappling hook can be used to perform another trick, but this requires two players on the team to choose this Runner Shell. The grappling hook can also be hooked onto the drone, which can transport players long distances across the map. This may not be as deadly, but it’s just as spectacular as the Claymore trick.
