The Lunar Awakening event is returning to Diablo 4. We’ll tell you what rewards await you and why the new XP bonus makes the event even more rewarding.

Just in time for the Chinese New Year, Blizzard is reviving the Lunar Awakening event in Diablo 4 – and this time there’s an even juicier XP boost. While the event already took place in 2024, the new version comes with a significant change: instead of a 50 percent XP bonus, there is now a whopping 100 percent extra experience points. So it’s worth taking part!

When does the event take place?

The Lunar Awakening begins on February 4 at 7pm ETand runs until February 18 at 7pm ET During this time, you can benefit from the special bonuses in both the Seasonal and Eternal Realms.

How does the XP buff work?

The XP boost is tied to the shrines in the game world. Activating a shrine will give you a 100 percent multiplicative experience bonus for two minutes In addition, there are enhanced shrine effects and Ancestral Favor reputation that can be exchanged for rewards.

What do the Lunar Shrines offer?

The special Lunar Shrines in the event not only grant the XP bonus, but also enhanced effects:

  • Artillery Shrine– Attacks have a chance to summon a Holy Bomb.
  • Blast Wave Shrine – Explosions deal additional bombardment damage.
  • Channeling Shrine – Increased attack speed and chance to reset cooldowns.
  • Conduit Shrine – Periodically summons powerful lightning strikes.
  • Greed Shrine – Chance to summon a treasure goblin. Kills during the shrine’s duration also summon treasure goblins.
  • Lethal Shrine – Chance to execute enemies you hit, instilling fear in nearby enemies (works on elite enemies, but not on bosses or players in PvP areas).
  • Protection Shrine – Reflects all incoming damage, scaling with level and difficulty.

What rewards are available?

In addition to experience points and shrine effects, there are also exclusive cosmetic items to be had.A total of ten Ancestral Favor reputation levels can be unlocked, which in turn contain six Lunar-themed rewards.

Of particular note is the new mount,Trag’Oul’s Consort, which fits with the event’s snake aesthetic.

If you haven’t completed last year’s event, you can also unlock past rewards such as the Lunar Scepter, Dragon’s Courage, Moonshot Bow, Dragon’s Tapestry, Moon’s Bounty, and other cosmetics.

In addition, special Lunar Awakening outfits are back in the in-game store, including the mage outfit Scholar of the Lonely Moon and a snake armor set for your mounts.
