The new shooter Lemnis Gate is celebrated in many tests for its novel game concept and also convinces in the user reviews on Steam.

The new shooter Lemnis Gate has been available since 28 September 2021, either on Steam or as part of the Microsoft Game Pass.

Even though the title with the exciting time-loop concept does not yet have a large audience or player numbers on Twitch and Steam, there is at least a lot of praise from the press and players.

What is Lemnis Gate anyway?

In case you’re on the fence or have never heard of Lemnis Gate at all, here’s a brief explanation of why the shooter is so special: Imagine a hero shooter à la Overwatch, except that you play the entire team yourself.

You and your opponent take turns sending the heroes onto the playing field to complete certain tasks, such as destroying a target object. The second player then reacts to this and tries, for example, to protect the target with shields or to eliminate the attacking player before he completes his mission. The latter then reacts in turn with the next hero and thus keeps the previous loops alive, attacks another target and confronts the defender with new mental tasks – the constant tug-of-war requires at least as much brains as fast shooter reflexes

Each round lasts just under half a minute and as soon as both players have sent their five heroes onto the field, the last loop decides who wins the game in the end.

If you want to see the whole thing in action, you should watch the following trailer:

Lemnis Gate in the international scoreboard

For this unprecedented game concept, Lemnis Gate is already receiving a lot of praise. On Metacritic, the average rating is just 81 points. The players on Steam also praise Lemnis Gate for the most part, here the game comes to 87 percent positive reviews

The voices of the testers and players

The highest rating is given by the American outlet But Why Tho? with an even 90.  Tester Arron Kluiz even calls Lemnis Gate a must for all fans of shooters and strategy games.

Lemnis Gate feels like a bold breath of fresh air. The game is a dramatic new twist on the genre, thought out down to its basics. Lemnis Gate is a must-play for all fans of shooters and strategy titles, especially for players who can bring a friend along for some 2v2 matches. The future looks pretty bright for Lemnis Gate, and it more than deserves it.

The French colleagues of the renowned website JeuxVideo.com also praise the very clever game design:

Lemnis Gate is a clever and damn well thought-out game. This original turn-based shooter, where tactical decisions are more important than pure skill, impresses. Its successful concept, mixing FPS and time loops, leads to refreshing engagements. It’s just a shame that some of its content neglects strategy in favour of less interesting direct confrontations. Let’s hope that the already sparse player base doesn’t shrink too quickly, because Lemnis Gate consistently implements its excellent concept.

On Steam, you’ll not only find witty ratings like I’m the complete team and still complain about my noob teammates, but also valid reviews.

For example, VulpineMachine writes:

The game is a gem.  A completely crazy concept developed by a small team that works better than it appears on paper. Very nice rock-paper-scissors approach that rewards the same part of the brain that gets excited when it learns clever chess strategies. The game can be a bit hectic and stressful at times, but it never descends into the chaos and madness that most “pure” online FPS games do, and that’s a good thing. This game can be played by mere mortals who don’t have lightning-fast reflexes. I’ll never rank high, but that’s okay because I have fun in almost every game, whether it’s close, I win overwhelmingly, or I get destroyed. Fun times.

There are, however, some negative reviews, mainly griping about the technical state of the game. In addition to bugs in the game, there are also supposed to be more crashes. Steam user FatesWebb summarises this in the user review as follows:

The concept is ingenious. The game rocks… when it’s good it’s great….ABER… it was released as 1.0 and is just alpha. The thing is totally buggy.  (…) This game, while amazing, needs to go back in the oven for a few hours.

Have you tried Lemnis Gate yet or do you still want to do so? Then write us in the comments how you liked the extraordinary shooter!
