The US actor James McCaffrey worked with Remedy for many years. He has now succumbed to cancer
James McCaffrey has died at the age of 65 as a result of cancer. In addition to numerous roles in films and series, the US actor also worked with game developer Remedy for many years, lending his legendary voice to a whole host of well-known and popular characters.
A lovely man and a dear friend
On X (formerly Twitter), the Remedy team is therefore extremely saddened and expresses its condolences to James McCaffrey’s loved ones.
We are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of our beloved friend and collaborator James McCaffrey, the iconic voice of Max Payne and Alex Casey. The creative director of Remedy, Sam Lake, also commented on X about the loss of his loved friend
He posted two pictures showing Lake and McCaffrey arm in arm, apparently working on a Remedy game. In the picture of the second post the two are even posing with the iconic Max Payne grimace.
I am heartbroken to hear the sad news of the death of James McCaffrey. We worked together for more than 25 years. He was a lovely man and a good friend. He was an important part of the Remedy family. He was a brilliant actor. No one could do what he did better than him. James was Max Payne, Thomas Zane, Zachariah Trench and finally Alex Casey. I had the honor of sharing the role of Max Payne and the role of Casey with him. It was a pleasure to work with him. I will cherish his memory and I miss him. My deepest condolences to his family. Rest in peace, Jim.

A man of many faces
James McCaffrey has truly played many roles in his life as an actor He not only voiced Max Payne, but also lent his voice to director Zachariah Trench in Control among others. He has also been heard in video games outside of Remedy games. For example, he voiced Edward Carnby in the fifth installment of Alone in the Dark.
His friend and fellow actor Kevin Dillon writes on (Instagram): We were lucky to know you, my best friend, we will miss you.
On the big screen, James McCaffrey has starred in American Splendor (2003), Hide and Seek (2005) and most recently A Good Woman Is Hard To Find (2019). As a series actor, he has appeared in Sex and the City, Law & Order, Suits, Marvel’s Jessica Jones and many other formats.
Many other companions also express their condolences on social media. James McCaffrey leaves behind a wife and a daughter.
