The co-op shooter captivates tens of thousands of fans in front of their screens and is already approaching the top 10 most played Steam games
The co-op shooter Helldivers 2 can’t complain about a lack of success. Just one day after its release, the title can boast of being the most successful PlayStation game in Steam history so far.
Read correctly: Helldivers 2 is distributed by Sony and is thus in the illustrious circle of such high-caliber games as Horizon: Zero Dawn, God of War or The Last of Us: Part 1.
All of these mentioned titles have easily overtaken Helldivers 2 on Steam after just 24 hours.
Already over 80,000 players simultaneously
Clearly, in times of a Palworld with its 528,000 active players at the time of this article, the success of Helldivers 2 with its currently 60,000 shooter fans seems almost puny.
The fact is, however, that no PlayStation title has been able to make such an impact on Steam. The all-time high for Helldivers 2 so far is around 81,000 players! This puts the shooter in 14th place among the most-played Steam games at the moment
The flip side of success: The first few hours after release the servers often couldn’t cope with the onslaught and fans had to endure repeated outages.
For comparison: The PC port of the aforementioned Horizon: Zero Dawn has a maximum of 56,557 concurrent players. God of War still comes pretty close with 73,529 players on Helldivers 2. And The Last of Us: Part 1 is far behind with 36,496 players. Of course, it is not yet clear whether the success of Helldivers 2 will continue unabated. However, the shooter has definitely laid a good foundation for a long-term future with its impressive launch.
