Patch 1.02 for the Gothic Remake fixes numerous bugs, but it also introduces a new, critical error that prevents further progress in the game. Here’s how to get around the problem.
TheGothic Remakerecentlyreceived its second update; Patch 1.02 makes combat more challenging, magic more powerful, and squashes quite a few bugs like a meat bug. However, there’s now a new issue that appears to have been caused by the update. A bug prevents Xardas’s demon from being interacted with. Fortunately, there’s alreadya solution from the community.
Here’s how to work around the bug with Xardas’s demon
The problem: The demon in the tower won’t talk to you, so you can’t give him the golem hearts. The solution comes from A-Better-Radical on Reddit, who posteda post. Strictly speaking, there are apparently two solutions to the problem:
- On a PC, you can either prevent the patch from downloading—for example, by launching Steam in offline mode—orroll back the update. The latter is quite easy to do for the Gothic Remake on Steam: Select the game in your library and click the gear icon in the top-right corner. Then click on
Properties
and selectGame Versions and Betas
from the menu on the left. Click onpreviousrelease
here, and the previous version will be installed automatically.
- If you’re playing on a console, you should collect all the hearts before you even go to the tower. If you’ve already been to the tower, check to see if you can load a previous save file. Once you’ve collected all the hearts, the conversation should work.
Of course, we can’t guarantee that the second solution will actually fix the problem. In the worst-case scenario, you’ll have to wait until the developers release a hotfix. After the first update, a hotfix was released six days later, so the issue might be fixed by the end of the week. We’ll keep you posted.
If you’re still stuck despite all this, we can at least offer you some reading material in the meantime. For example, Peter has explored the question of whether you should use potions with permanent bonuses right away. And if you still want to keep playing, instead of the main quest, you can delve into the mystery of a serial killer who’s on the loose in the remake. You can read more about these topics in the link box above.
