Remember the tedious hunt for swamp sharks? The vile beasts are returning in the role-playing remake, of course, and now there’s a first artwork

Every few months, the developers of the Gothic Remake reveal what familiar enemies will look like in the new edition. We’ve already seen Minecrawlers, Goblins, Molerats, Scavengers and Harpies, now it’s the turn of a stronger monster: the Swamp Shark.

Exactly, these were the giant worms with fanged mouths that we had to hunt for the legendary orc weapon Ulu-Mulu. Or that chased us when we strayed a little too far from the camp in search of swamp weed. Their strange hitbox was particularly annoying because you kept missing. When in doubt, the solution is: Fire Arrow

In the original they were angular gray blobs with coal steam, in the remake they look like cosmic horror creatures:

Respect-inspiring beast, but perhaps the tried and tested, if not very heroic, hunting method will still work: lure the swamp shark into the swamp camp, where the Templars will make handy cutlets out of it. However, you lose experience and it is possible that the victorious NPC will loot the swamp shark first. Will it work the same way in the remake? We don’t know yet. But we do know other things

What is known about the remake

There is still no fixed release date, but the Gothic remake is due to be released sometime in 2024 for PC and current consoles. It will be a graphical and gameplay remake that sticks very closely to the original: We are once again the nameless hero who is transported to the mining colony and tries to break through the deadly magical barrier.

We know the three camps and their factions just as well as the NPCs we meet. And, of course, the enemies who are out to get us. The story is also the same as the original. However, there will certainly be changes, for example to better balance the magic and make the environments more lively. In the trailer, we’ve already seen what it’s like in the Old Camp:

You can find even more information in our analysis and columns on the Gothic remake, which we are eagerly awaiting. Because it faces some very, very difficult challenges

How do you like the swamp shark’s new skin? Is this how you always imagined it or would you prefer the old design? Which of the enemies revealed so far do you like best and who are you still waiting to see? Author Steffi, for example, can hardly wait to see the first Shadowrunner.
