The “RTX 50” GPUs are suffering from delivery problems. However, availability could soon improve significantly.

On January 30, Nvidia launched the new GeForce graphics card generation with the RTX 5080 and RTX 5090. So far, however, the new high-end GPUs have suffered from significant availability issues.

Since their release, the graphics cards have in fact only been available for purchase through reselling platforms, and of course only at exorbitant prices. According to a rumor, this situation is about to change fundamentally.

Nvidia is said to be ramping up RTX production

The usually well-informed Nvidia insider MEGASizeGPU has caused a stir with a post on In it, he claims that the availability of the RTX 5090 will soon be very high. Scalpers will “cry so much” as a result.

He then adds a few explanations. Allegedly, Nvidia has ordered a large quantity of GB200 GPUs from TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company). These are the Blackwell graphics cards specially designed for AI and data center applications.

However, demand for these AI GPUs is said to be lower than expected. So Nvidia could focus production on the models that promise profit. And those are the GB202 GPUs, aka the RTX 5090.

The insider does not provide a source for his claims, so they cannot be verified. In principle, it can of course be assumed that the availability of the new graphics cards will improve again at some point. However, it is questionable how soon this will be the case.

The gaming division at Nvidia is relatively small compared to the data centers (via Videocardz). So a redistribution of production doesn’t mean that the AI business has completely collapsed or anything like that.

It would be more conceivable that Nvidia had simply expected even greater demand and therefore prioritized the GB200 GPUs accordingly. This would also explain the weak availability of the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080.

On February 20, the RTX 5070 Ti, the next graphics card of the new generation, will be released. It remains to be seen whether the availability of this model will be better.
