For a limited time, you can grab a highly acclaimed action game on the Epic Games Store completely free of charge.

Are you in the mood for a dark Metroidvania that feels pleasantly fresh and races you through the levels at high speed? Then you should definitely check out the Epic Games Store right now. Starting immediately, you can get the fast-paced action game Doomblade there completely free of charge.

Normally, the game costs around 16 euros, but for exactly one week, you can grab it for 0 euros and keep it forever. We’ve summarized here why the download is worth it for all Hollow Knight fans and what makes the gameplay so special.

What makes Doomblade so special?

In Doomblade, you take on the role of Gloom Girl, the last of her kind, who leads a dreary existence deep in a cave-like underworld. But then she discovers a talking weapon—the eponymous Doomblade.

Together, the two embark on a bloody quest for revenge against the so-called Dread Lords, who once chained the magical sword and stripped it of its powers. The setting is wonderfully dark and is accompanied by a magnificent soundtrack that blasts the finest heavy metal through your speakers during the intense battles.

In terms of gameplay, you can expect a Metroidvania that stands out from the competition thanks to its extremely unusual controls. Instead of hopping from platform to platform, as is typical in other games of this genre, movement and combat merge into a single entity in this title.

You target your enemies and then, at the push of a button, dash through the air straight toward them. This lets you chain attacks together and literally fly through the dark caves.

Who should download this for free?

If you love Metroidvanias but are also looking for a fresh gameplay idea, you’ve come to the right place.

The reviews are overwhelmingly positive: OnMetacritic the game boasts an impressive score of 83 points. The reviews particularly praise the fantastic art design, the deep lore, and the lightning-fast combat system, which offers a refreshing change of pace.

Grab the PC version starting today at 5 p.m. directly from the Epic Games Store. As always, you’ll have exactly one week to add the title to your library.
