This morning, Final Fantasy XVI producer Naoki Yoshida addressed his fan community. In a Twitter post, he announced that work on the upcoming action adventure game had been delayed. Therefore, no more new information about the title will be revealed this year.

Actually, there should have been new information material about Final Fantasy XVI this year. But the still ongoing Corona pandemic is complicating the development work. As a result, the development schedule has been set back by half a year – according to Yoshida.

At least Yoshida promised new information for spring 2022. Since they are working on a game for the PlayStation 5, they want to really polish up the title before releasing updates. The setting was presented in autumn last year. Since then, fans have been waiting for new input on the upcoming adventure game.

Set in the world of Valisthea, Final Fantasy XVI tells the story of the protagonist Clive Rosfield, his little brother Joshua and their childhood friend Jill Warrick. While Clive and Joshua are sons of the Archduke of Rosaria, whereas Jill is from the Northern Territories. This territory has sworn allegiance to the Archduchy, which means that the two kingdoms are at peace. Besides these regions, there is also the Holy Empire of Sanbreque, the Kingdom of Waloed, the Dhalmek Republic and the Iron Kingdom. The kingdoms are in a tense peace after a war over the so-called Mother Crystals. But the situation comes to a dangerous head when the disease Blight breaks out. More details can be found on the PlayStation Blog.
