Final Fantasy 7 Revelation features Ruby, Emerald, and Ultima Weapon. Some of the legendary foes return as particularly tough endgame bosses.
Anyone who ever thought they were prepared for absolutely any battle in the original Final Fantasy 7 had Ruby and Emerald Weapon prove them wrong pretty quickly. For Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, Square Enix is bringing back these two infamous foes. In the new Gamescom trailer, we get our first look at them in their revamped forms.
But that’s not all: Ultima Weapon also makes its first detailed appearance. The three massive creatures take center stage in the new “The Planet’s Crisis” trailer, which Square Enix released as part of Opening Night Live.
Some Weapons await you in the endgame
The Weapons are colossal guardians of the planet who awaken in the face of impending disaster. However, they aren’t particularly choosy about their targets. Friend and foe alike find themselves in their crosshairs, which inevitably puts Cloud and his companions on a collision course with these colossal beings.
Square Enix promises that these encounters will be far more than ordinary boss battles. The battles are set to take place in the desert, in the air, and on the ocean floor, among other locations. The Emerald Weapon was already briefly seen in *Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth*, but the new trailer now hints at a much larger appearance. Among other things, a confrontation with a submarine can be seen.
Fans of the original should also be prepared for the fact that not all Weapons will simply be defeated as the story progresses. Square Enix confirms that some of the creatures will appear as particularly challenging endgame enemies. In this regard, Revelation follows, at least in part, the model of the 1997 Final Fantasy 7, in which Ruby and Emerald Weapon were among the toughest optional challenges.
Typhon, New Ways to Get Around, and the FITS System
Aside from the Weapons, the trailer features several other new scenes. Among other things, Typhon is shown as a summon. The party also travels through the world using parachutes, grappling hooks, and chocobos. The new FITS system also makes another appearance: Certain outfits grant characters additional abilities, modeled after classic Final Fantasy jobs. Cloud and Tifa, for example, are shown as a Warrior and a Black Mage, respectively.
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation concludes the remake trilogy and is set to be released in spring 2027 simultaneously for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. However, Square Enix has yet to announce a specific release date.
