In a community stream, the developers open up that they are thinking about introducing radioactively contaminated areas.

If you’re looking for a shooter for beginners, you’re unlikely to choose Escape from Tarkov. Because mistakes have serious consequences here: if you die, you usually lose all your equipment. At least you can safely store items if you don’t take them into battle, but that could change soon.

The developers of the multiplayer shooter are thinking (according to altchar.com) about a new feature that could make Tarkov even tougher, since it could lead to the loss of your character and all the equipment you’ve collected.

This is what’s behind the Permatod

Those who now fear for their precious PMC can breathe a sigh of relief. Because the danger of your character’s permanent death only threatens in special, radioactively contaminated zones. The radiation here is so high that after a short time you will simply drop dead. At least you can extend the time you can spend in the zones with gas masks and special armour.

And if you’re wondering why you should voluntarily run into a death zone, the developers already have an answer: In the radioactively contaminated places, particularly valuable, legendary loot and special quests are hidden. So an excursion could be worthwhile, but it involves an enormous risk.

This may remind some people of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series: there, the most valuable items, artefacts with special powers, could only be found in extremely dangerous anomalies. Here, too, you could acquire special armour that made it easier to stay in an anomaly.

You must risk everything

As in Stalker, you will have to risk your life when venturing into the radioactive zones of Escape from Tarkov. However, there is more at stake here: for if you die here, you shall lose all your progress. Your character, his equipment and his consumables – all gone.

Loss of equipment has also been a possibility that Tarkov players have had to deal with. Death usually meant that the equipped and captured items were hopelessly lost. Unless you had insured them expensively and they were not found by other players.

But at least it was possible to store items for your own character, so you didn’t have to start from scratch every time you died. That could change soon. So what exactly do the radioactive zones hide that makes them worth the risk of permanent death? Perhaps we will soon find out.

Also, with the next patch, the scaling technology DLSS is supposed to appear and bring better performance for owners of newer graphics cards. A trailer has already shown what advantages players can hope to gain from this:

What do you think of the permadeath function? Does it bring the right kick to the hardcore shooter or is it too much of a good thing when everything is gone after a rash manoeuvre or a lot of bad luck? Let us know in the comments.
