The Chinese studio is focusing on tactical gameplay with hero abilities. Many Call of Duty fans are hoping for a real alternative to the market leader.
NetEase Games has unveiled a new shooter with ECC: Redline, a new shooter that’s particularly catching the attention of Call of Duty fans. All in all, the game is very reminiscent of Warzone, although there are a few differences.
The Chinese company describes the title as an extreme sports tactical shooter and aims to offer fast-paced gameplay on Steam and mobile devices.
Close to the Original: Just How Much the NetEase Shooter Resembles Warzone
Some players see it as an almost direct copy of Warzone, as the visuals, recoil, and weapon handling resemble the original—right down to the user interface, sound effects, and the blur effect when jumping from great heights.
“Warzone + Delta Force + Blood Strike = ECC: Redline,” reads one comment under the official YouTube video. “This is Warzone one-to-one—it’s just ridiculous,” writes one user on Reddit.
Unique Hero Skills and Hope for Real Competition for CoD
A key difference from Warzone is that the characters come with their own abilities and gadgets. Given this—and also due to a certain degree of fatigue—some fans see ECC: Redline as a welcome alternative and competitor to Activision’s top dog.
“If ECC: Redline delivers really good servers and smooth movement AND listens to the community … CoD will finally have to step up its game again,” writes one user. Another commenter adds: “Close enough. Welcome back, old Warzone. Honestly, it actually looks even better.”
This isn’t the first time NetEase titles have shown similarities to other successful projects. Fans drew comparisons between the comic book hero game Marvel Rivals and Overwatch. The tactical shooter Hyper Front even landed the company a lawsuit from Riot Games.
